It's been quite a few months since the Elemental roleplayers got together and discussed this thing. A thank you is overdue to everyone who contributed- @frost, Kaguya (who gave us most of this little spiel), 27th, o p a l. } (who came up with the darn thing in the first place!), Pine, Val (not actually sure about you, Val. But you have an Elemental, so tagged anyway!).
Anyone is invited to offer a comment, correction, or criticism. This post is just a general overview of the war, and probably not even that complete. If something here clashes strongly with an idea you've had, or if you have anything else you'd like to say on the topic, feel free to contact a member of staff.

When the essences of the elements first took on dragon forms, the races of men and elves were still young. Yes, although only the dragons remember it, there was a time when the mortal races were young- and, following from this, the Elementals too. The ten Elemental dragons, brimming with power, were drawn to the same massive island in the middle of the ocean- the island on which they today reside.
The island at this time was a fairly ordinary island, not divided up into distinct climes as it is today. Naturally a number of the Elementals, each considering his or herself to be the most powerful being in the land, did not particularly like the idea of having to share their new domain. War broke out, each dragon striving to prove their superiority, and unify the island under their own metaphorical flag. Alliances were forged and broken, territories staked out, their minds and abilities stretched to full capacity even as they were still learning to master both.
This led to the beginning of Creations, although the Creations were not always constructed with war in mind. Although some were, others were Created as company, and others still to help cultivate the land held by their Elemental. However, no matter the original intention, each Creation was affected by the war in some shape or form. Many were lost during this time, and more were Created to fill the gap. The time of mourning was usually short, unfortunately; because one could never be sure if or when another confrontation would occur. This was not a good time in which to be a Creation, in short.
Over time, many Elementals grew weary of the continued conflict. They banded together to try and persuade the others to end it. It was not an easy task but, eventually, the fighting all but ceased and the war could be considered resolved. Although there have been two or three more Elemental Wars since, none was as large in scale, and the borders of the territories held by each Elemental then were very similar to what they are today.
The borders were defined at a meeting, attended by all the Elementals, at the conclusion of the war. During this time, it was also decided that a similar meeting would be held every ten years in a different territory, and would serve as a forum for discussion between the Elementals and for exchanging news from their respective territories. This decennial meeting came to be known as "the Gathering". While Gatherings are generally held once every ten years, additional ones can and have been called in times of emergency.
While the war had such a massive impact on the lives of contemporary Creations, it was so long ago that; today, it goes largely unremembered, except for where small details linger in popular belief. Even the Elementals themselves may find it difficult to call to mind specific details of the First War. However, it paved the way for their world as we know it today and, for this reason, I have chosen to post an overview of the event for the general benefit of my fellow roleplayers.
Additional Notes:
=> If anyone wants to write a piece about their own Elemental's role in the war, you may do so in this thread. However, bear in mind that specific details will largely be forgotten by modern day- perhaps even to the Elementals themselves!
