▪ Arianr’hod ▪ ▪ Air ▪ ▪ Female ▪ ▪ Heterosexual ▪ Rider Up for App. personality Air is not an element easily captured or contained, likewise its dragon is not so easily pinned down. The she-dragon representing this element is constantly in movement, her energy is as boundless as the winds which are constantly sweeping across friend and foe alike. She very rarely rests except during the peak heat or cool time of the day, preferring to fly in the air rather than sleep. That being said, what rest is conserved for her body is used by her mind. When not indulging her energetic ways, the creature can often be found reading, learning, or a puzzling out some sort of thing. Time has not dulled her inquisitive nor curious nature which is why puzzles and riddles are some of her favorite activities. That being said, it is not uncommon for her to lose interest quickly if another object or exercise proves to be a bigger curiosity. Like the wind, she flits from one thing to another, often coming back when the time is right and delighting in her findings. Besides the need to be in constant movement, Arianr’hod is easily adaptable to the circumstances. Over time, she has developed a sort of lock-down for her impulsive nature, and is quite capable of becoming a serious and direct creature. She is adept at contemplating a situation and analyzing the multitudes of outcomes with swift efficiency. She very rarely allows something to go unnoticed or unsaid. This being said, however, the Air Elemental very rarely takes a side on anything, she is much more neutral on any distressing subject, someone would have to create a very creative and forceful argument to get her to actively become a part of a decision. Her nature is thus because she is very much aware of her capricious and flighty compulsions. She would just as likely take one side as another and then change her mind halfway down the road because of some ‘un-foreseen’ obstacle. And so, she refuses to stand other than on her own unless for dire circumstances. Of all of her wavering alliances and interests, Arianr’hod has always kept a special piece of her personality for her children, the Creations. If anyone besides herself and the wind has her loyalty, it will be those that she has taken the time and will to give life. The effort she puts into their creation ties herself to them in an irrevocable way, because she spares time minimally for anything they will always come first on any type of ‘loyalty’ list she may have. That being said, Arianr’hod was and will never be the world’s greatest maternal figure; while she values her Creations, beyond that special little way they have over her, she will rarely be seen showing affection except for on the off chance that she’s feeling the mood. That’s not to say she can’t be compassionate or understanding, she can be quite that, but the interest in such a thing is as flighty as her personality. The air is her child, the soaring skies her heart, and the clouds her family. Her only sense of ‘belonging’ comes from her hours and hours of flying. On the case of a ‘rider,’ Arianr’hod has found that it takes a special type of being to put up with her and for her to put up with it. Not just anyone will do. Those in her past have become as attached to her as she has to them, devoted in a way she cannot be to her Creations because her riders have almost always been by her side. She finds a type of comfort from the companionship of another and when this couples with the excitement she feels in flying across the skies, her life is very nearly at its most enjoyable. One of the least favorable things about the Elemental is her pride, and second, her hidden arrogance. The two tend to be hand in hand because both derive from the sense of power she has within her element. Those who bad-mouth and underestimate her and the Air are soon after dead or find themselves hanging from a very high cliff. She dislikes being disregarded as a threat because of her nature and because of the novelty that Air seems to be. Her arrogance, though she tries valiantly to hide it in the necessary situations (she doesn’t have a death wish), stems from that pride and her belief that Air is, again, underestimated to a ridiculous degree, which she believes to mean that her element is the most powerful. This does not however cause her to create strife among the other Elementals, her pride and arrogance she keeps mostly for herself and those unwitting imbeciles. She knows, in her curious wisdom, to not underestimate the other nine dragons nor the elements which they wield. A healthy amount of fear is quite acceptable even. appearance Reference: Body, head, and color. Covered from tail tip to her protruding upper lip and right to left wing in a pale white, the Air Elemental is perfectly suited to a life surrounded by clouds. Her scales are angled in a teardrop like shape with the semi-curve joining into a sharp, almost delicate point. While they ought to be fire resistant, they are not nearly as resilient as they should be, often her scales will char or smoke over to the point where they must fall off and be replaced. The scales which become unattached to her body, while hard and nearly indestructible to a fine point, are ridiculously flexible. This is part of what enables her agile and fleet-winged flight. It can also be found that a single scale, when not layered with others, is a misty sort of white, almost clear in its appearance; only the addition of several layers of scales gives her the pale white viewed in broad daylight. She has four leanly muscled limbs, they can be referred to as legs or even the front two as arms, but there is no real difference between any of them in such a respect. Attached to each are four claws, they are straight to almost the very tip before curving slightly down in a raptor like talon. Her rear limbs also have what humans or elves would call a dewclaw, a very large curved talon which hooks around from her heel and up towards the bottom of her foot. The use of this claw is tedious at best and generally only necessary when she is trying to land on a large branch or the edge of a cliff. Due to numerous incidents, the scales on the bottom of her foot are dented with the imprint of her failed landing attempts in her youth. This injury has never healed due to the number of times this has happened and will often ache whenever she lands. The spines which trail from the back of her skull along her spine and to the tip of her tail are a deep storm grey. They lighten slightly as they reach her tail to a pale sleet grey. This, beside her eyes, is the only place on her which is not white. Back at her head, the spines begin by protruding from her cheek, jaw, and eyebrow/forehead bones at the sleek white color. They are curved in such a way to maximize her aerodynamicy, but do nothing less than create an elegant crown around her nape. Her eyes are slitted slightly in resemblance to the reptiles, but are almond and large in the way of the raptors. They appear to be a bright teal color, but often range to a green or milky blue hue. Continuing down to her muzzle, she has two large openings which would seem to be her nostrils, but are in fact flaps of skin which fold down to cover the very small teardrop holes which are her actual nostrils. From the tips of these flaps come two thick ‘whiskers’ which essentially serve no purpose. Three finer ‘whiskers’ also extend from her chin and arch backwards with her jaw bone. Her upper jaw over lays the lower, a gleaming row of sharp incisors extending past her lips in a way that they will never enter her mouth. Her wings are most strange. While the scales cover what would be the bone to hold the membrane in place, there is no true membrane. The additional ‘finger’ which would support the membrane hang rigid in the formation that the wing would take. With the Air as her element, Arianr’hod has no use for wings as she feeds off the air and uses it to fill in the gaps essentially. The streaks in the sky, which can be quite frequently be seen, are the result of this gap filling, her ‘fingers’ leave little lines along the air that she uses to make her wings. Besides these false wings, her body is long and stretched out proportionally, the length between her shoulders and hips would be measured as around nine feet, which is a similar length for her neck from the back of the shoulder to end of her crown spines. Her tail comes in at a rough eleven feet, not counting the spines which extend from her tail bone. So she is a, very roughly, estimated twenty-nine foot long dragon. Being the Air Elemental comes with a strange plus, her vertebra are separated and cushioned by not only tendon and ligament, but also the air, it supports her agile and quick body, allowing a wide range of motions. Her limbs, while generally considered useful only for landing or the humane ‘walking’ do not have this added bonus, they are the simply muscled of her body and often remain tucked to her torso unless necessary. Simply put, she was built to fly mercurial and with an agile swiftness, more defensive rather than offensive. history Eons ago, when Arianr’hod came to be, she lived much the same as she does now. There is very little of her lifestyle which has changed and most of that is dependent upon outside forces. By now, she has more offspring than since the beginning, and at one time the very few she had created were among her most favored of companions whereas now they hold only a minor place within her heart. This all has been a slow regression. The most memorable part of her history comes from the short four decades she once had to spend with her first Rider. She was Grisellda, a woman more prideful and stubborn than any mule alive, but the love of adventure that she hid beneath her sharp words fascinated the Air Elemental. They would fly together for days on end and, even when the elf slept, Arianr’hod felt more content with her than when she had been without a Rider. And so went the years until Grisellda fell prey to the mortal thing that was death, and the Air Elemental grieved. Still grieves for that kindred soul. And that is what she seeks when deciding upon a Rider, the drive and will to become the Air. Weapons Besides her natural incisors, jaw strength, and sharpened claws, Arianr’hod is quite skilled in aerial combat, she is constantly keeping up with her defense and offense practice as well as attempting to learn the moves she sees others exhibit. This does not mean much when considering how she is built, her skill in physical battle is only useful when she has no other option. Air, being her element, gives her a ridiculous amount of leeway when it comes to the physical combat. She is able to constrict her opponent’s airway by either stripping the air from their lungs or forcibly stretching their lungs to implode from the element. Natural disasters also come from her at times, tornados, hurricanes, typhoons, cyclones, etc. She is capable of using the air to give her an extra dose of speed when she is flying, this is very helpful when she needs to escape or… beat someone in a race? One of her favorite things to do with her element is to use it to ‘eavesdrop’ on others: she steals the words from the air that is used to breathe them, this however is only useful when in the surrounding area because the words are lost almost instantaneously. A very rare ability for her to use is on herself: thinning her scales by separating them slightly with her air to give her body an almost translucent appearance, this is both very taxing and dangerous. But it is also useful in the correct circumstances. Rp Sample [ note: honestly, I could have written more.. but I’m tired]There was always that rare moment when someone could catch her sleeping. For some reason, the words ‘rare’ and ‘always’ didn’t seem to go together, but worked perfectly in this sense. As is: they happened too damn frequently. If it wasn’t one time, it was another, and if it wasn’t this one annoying imp, it was one of the whimpering Creations that she called her children. Those spoiled rotten beings. Of course, this time, it wasn’t either of them, nor was it predictable, it was her own fault. The nights previous had led to an exorbitant amount of energy spent, she had traveled much before the occurrence that led to her utilizing her prized ability. Of course, that had meant much at the time and seemed less important now, perhaps it was due to the fact that she had already slumbered for far more than the necessary time. Well, what she would deem as necessary. When she cocked an eye open to reveal her less than pleased mood, and pleased was not something she often felt when on the earth’s floor, it was to find a strange … thing? scowling at her. She puffed a rather large breath at the four limbed creature, hoping to intimidate it into scurrying off… She wasn’t hungry for anything so scrawny or timid. Rather than doing at the Elemental had desired, it sputtered and yelled a very rude phrase. Arianr’hod made a point of simply staring at the standing thing which waved two of its covered limbs at her in what she decided must be anger. It was rare that she saw anger. Rare that she cared enough to stick around. But of course, one must pay attention to understand the interesting bits. “’Ey! ‘Ey, you! Ya bloodeh beast!” Arianr’hod stretched her wing limbs from where they had lain during her slumber, savoring the delicious ache of well used tissue and the promise of a nice relaxing flight. The little standing creature moved in front of her, stopping to poke a finger at the dragon’s large head while shouting a few other things that Arianr’hod decided weren’t worth building fury over. Oh no, rather, she wanted to watch the little thing as she… hmm, was it a she? fell to the earth from the floating isles. The ivory white beast chuckled deep within her throat before summoning a blast of wind to lift the human, yes that’s what it was, or perhaps elf, upside down. She listened little to the strangled sounds coming from the throat of the little two-legged as she lifted to her claws and waddled, yes, waddled, to the nearby cliff side. She gleefully listened for the screams which would ring off the air currents as she dropped the female. And when she heard none, a frown came across her features, as much of a frown as she could form at least, before she listened to the ‘whispers’ of the joyful laughter coming from the she-thing. Suddenly re-interested in the humanoid, Arianr’hod lifted the red faced female back to the earth of the cliff side with her air currents. “Tell me, little creature whom has decided to play with the Air Elemental, just what are you to take delight in what should have been an ultimate death?” She didn’t allow the human time to catch her breath nor to answer before she gripped the flesh in her winds once more and threw her into the air. Again, the sounds of joy. When she came down this time, the little human scowled at the white she-dragon, no one scowled at her, and said, “Grisellda, is what I ‘am’.” The Air Elemental cocked her head to the side, her crown casting an eerie shadow along the sun drenched earth that was her floating isles, and she decided. Perhaps this human had just become more than a little intriguing. played by: blasphemy ▪ face claim: picture from mystic moon media as a reference. |
