Sons & Daughters
Criss, son of the Water and Fire Elementals, is an angry and conflicted young dragon with a buried heart of gold. While many dragons are most at home in the sea or the sky, Criss prefers to keep his feet firmly planted on the ground, thank you so very much. But if he could only embrace his Water heritage, he would find that he can breathe underwater just as well as he can breathe air!
OOC: The thread between Akhil and Tiv. Only, I'm having Sig start out. The young dragon sensed the familiar pulling of his Creator summoning him to his lair. Sigmund immediately stopped what he was doing and found the nearest shadow, which happened to be one of a young sapling.
Concentrating, he jumped towards the shadow, disappearing into it. For a moment, all was dark, and he could feel his body racing towards something... there was a light at the end of the darkness. Suddenly, he was there, and he found himself standing in the familiar shadows cast by the rocks in the tunnel of Dragonsdeep.
Sigmund glanced around. He was in the Gathering Cavern, and there was Akhil, his back faced to Sigmund, Titanius at his side. They were deep in conversation, both staring into the pool, apparently in thought. Sigmund had no desire to interrupt. He cleared his throat quietly.
Both turned around, and Sigmund gave them a quick salute. They walked towards him.
Titanius smiled in greeting, and Akhil only blinked. "As you were," he rumbled, and Sigmund relaxed.
"You called me, sir?"
"Yes, I did. The Creation is stirring. I must meet with the others."
"Tivialous," Sigmund replied, understanding immediately. Of course Akhil would want to see his closest friend first. "You want me to get him."
"Be quick," Akhil said. Sigmund nodded, and dove into the shadows again, travelling into the territory of the Light.
Where was Tivialous, anyway? Was he even here? "Tivialous! Tivialous, sir!" he called out, casting sounds around the territory, trying to seek out the Light Elemental's whereabouts. "ARE YOU HERE? I'M SIGMUND, AKHIL'S AMABASSADOR!"
Tivialous broke away from his companions- both Creations, both well-respected individuals whom he trusted to follow his instructions to the letter- and doubled back towards the plains. Sure enough, Akhil's young Ambassador Sigmund was there, casting his voice to and fro, probably scaring away all wildlife in their vicinity. Tivialous caught his gaze and swooped in, landing and jogging gently to a halt just a couple of metres from the smaller black-and-orange drake. He smiled politely, and then spoke:
OOC: -- Sigmund was so busy calling for Tivialous that he didn't see the large Light Elemental swoop down at first.
"WHERE ARE YOU, TIVIALOUS, SIR?" he yelled, his voice starting to grow hoarse.
The dragon in question landed. "I am here, Sigmund. What is it you need?"
"TIVIA-- oh." Sigmund blinked, slightly flustered, as he finally saw Tivialous. Quickly, his body straightened and he went into a salute. "Tivialous, sir! Akhil requests to see you at his lair, in the Gathering Cavern. The Creation-or-other is waking. Please go as quickly as possible."Well, my job here is done. Sigmund gave a farewell salute to the Light Elemental, then disappeared into a shadow.
Tivialous had already known why the Ambassador was there- of course he had. But his heart still sank at Sigmund's words, filling with cold dread. What did Akhil think of him? When he'd needed Tivialous, Light had hung back with Earth, the very dragoness who had taken Dark's home from him. Perhaps he'd understand. Tivialous wasn't confident in this possibility.
So it was, wings weighted and unwilling, that Tivalous made his way to the entrance of Dragonsdeep. This was the first he'd seen of it and it was, as he'd heard, just so much darkness and gloom. Until he reached the Gathering Cavern, and even its luminous beauty could hardly distract him from the issue at hand.
"Akhil," he began, reluctantly. "Sigmund said you wish to see me?"
OOC: "Marintacea" is pronounced "marinta-SEA". Akhil had been expressing his opinions towards Titanius when Tivialous had arrived. A boiling anger was coming over him again. It was frustration at Ysera for imprisoning the Creation in Dragonsdeep (the Creation in which he, Akhil, had never contributed to making, yet he was here worrying about it), then "gifting" the set of tunnels to him. Now, it was awakening, and his Creations and other animals were at risk. His heart clenched at the thought of the extinction of his Chroptians and Marintacea. He had spent centuries studying the animals that had inspired the production of these special creatures, and to think it was all going to waste because of another one of Ysera's plans. Not to mention the destruction of Dragonsdeep, of Akhil's territory-- again. She, Elemental of the Earth, should understand above anyone else (except perhaps Fazoola) the importance of preserving life.
Akhil wanted to give his Creations a safe haven. The land of the Darkness was supposed to be his Creations' stronghold, their safe zone, their birthplace their homeland. And now it was being put into risk of being demolished a second time. A crazy spurt of anger rushed into him, making him want to fly into Ysera's territory and give her a real piece of his mind physically and verbally. He hadn't felt like this for a long time; mostly, he just tucked the thoughts away, forcing himself not to make a big deal out of nothing. It was nothing, really; she hadn't done it on purpose, maybe, but he couldn't help feeling sometimes that she was just trying to get to him. The third time this happens, meaning that I receive the short end of the stick again when she comes up with one of her "plans," it will mean something's up. I can't keep getting ripped "accidentally" every time, Akhil thought to himself. He wasn't sure what he did to her, if he did anything at all.
He knew Titanius was sensing his building vexation, because he felt a cool hand on the side of his shoulder. You can't accuse her of trying to tyrannize you when you aren't sure that that's her purpose,he said sharply in his head. They often conversed like that, within each other's minds, out of fear that, if they spoke out loud, they would be heard by unwanted eavesdroppers.
I'm not saying she's trying to tyrannize me, Akhil said shortly. It just seems that every single time Ysera tries to solve something, there's consequences for me.
Maybe that's just coincidence. Titanius sounded amused.
Look, next time this happens--
"Akhil." A familiar voice made both of them turn around. "Sigmund said you wished to see me?"
It was Tivialous. The warmth from the happiness of seeing his old friend bubbled within him and, for a moment, smothered the feelings of rage and graveness. Then, it receded, like tide from a shore. Only, it would not make a comeback. Tivialous was, after all, still mated to the dragon that Akhil had been seething over a few minutes ago. But his argument was not with him. So, he decided to put aside his indignation for now. But the Light Elemental had sounded somewhat hesitant, and briefly, Akhil wondered if Tivialous, for whatever reason, was scared of him. Or just plain reluctant to see him. Akhil stared at the Light dragon somberly for a moment, before cracking a small smile in greeting. Beside him, Titanius stepped forward and gave him a bow, then quietly slipped out.
I'll give you some privacy. Akhil acknowledged this with a mental nod.
"Tivialous," Akhil began, addressing his friend without the old nickname. "It's nice to see you.
"But that is not the reason I called you here. You must be aware by now, assuming that Sigmund or someone else has told you, that the Creation is waking. I can feel it as I walk through the tunnels, though I cannot see it. It disturbs the peacefulness of my domain and puts my creatures in danger. In addition, I do not know much about this monster, as I put no effort into bringing it into existence. The centuries have passed, and I must apologize when I say that I have forgotten if you had taken part in its birth. If you have, I ask for advice on how to get rid of it-- without demolishing anyone's territory," he finished, his eyes sparkling slightly.
Tivialous' relief at Akhil's lack of anger was quickly dampened by mention of the Creation of Many's birth. Like Fazoola, Akhil had opposed the idea. Unlike both of them, Tivialous had not.
"I did contribute," he said, nodding affirmation.
(What does he think of me now?).
"It is good to see you too, Akhil," Tivialous continued. "I'm sorry I didn't arrive sooner, but I'm here now. As for how to get rid of it- I spoke to Astraeus, and we do have a plan."
Tivialous usually speaks much more casually. His formal tone is reserved for ceremony, for strangers or others he's not well acquainted with, and for tense situations. He's still not sure where he stands with Akhil, hence him talking this way.
OOC: I'm just wondering how to say Tivialous's name-- I've been saying "ti-VEH-lous" (like "zealous") in my head-- is that right? "I did contribute," Tivialous replied. At this, Akhil's head turned slightly, his tail twitching in a dragon's way of wincing. Confusion, and a little bit frustration, swept over him, directed towards Tivialous.
He could feel some concern from Titanius, wherever he was. His emotions must've reached his rider's mind. Anything wrong? asked Titanius sharply.
Tivialous participated in the birth of the Creation, Akhil reported.
And? Well, I expected him to learn from the mistakes we made when we created the Dark and Light hybrids, Akhil argued. That project did not prove to be successful, and now there's an even more dangerous monster on the rise.
I see. Titanius fell silent with thought.
"It's good to see you too, Akhil," Tivialous continued, jerking Akhil away from his conversation with the elf. "I'm sorry I didn't arrive sooner, but I'm here now. As for how to get rid of it- I spoke to Astraeus, and we do have a plan."
Akhil turned to address Tivialous. "Our previous experience with the hybrids have not gone well," he said carefully, using the same formal tone as the Light dragon had used on him. It made him feel unfamiliar towards his old friend, and, frankly, uncomfortable to be around him. But this was business, not a reunion. "I thought you would know from that. But all that aside, I am wondering why the Creation has not deteriorated. As you know, hybrids consisting of two elements' energies are quite unstable. This monster consists of multiples ones, and I am surprised it has lived as long as it has. And I fear how much energy will be released when it does break apart. It will, quite possibly, mean the destruction of all my creations' home-- dragons and other creatures alike. I wish for that to not happen again. What is your plan, then?"
ooc: I like that pronunciation! You're welcome to say/think it however you like but, to answer your question fully, to my mind it's: tih-VIGH-ih-LOUSE ('vigh' rhymes with 'high, 'louse' is like the things that live in your hair. =P).
bic: "I do know that now, Akhil," Tivialous said, the words heavy on his tongue. "I've changed a lot over the centuries- we all have."
He hesitated then. "To tell the truth, that was our plan: to put enough stress on the creature that it simply breaks apart. Astraeus and I believe- strongly believe- that this will not cause your territory undue harm. It would be more of an...implosion, an inward focus. Perhaps the cavern in which the event takes place would suffer some minor damage, but we don't think it would mean the obliteration of Dragondeep or harm to anybody not already in said cavern. You yourself mentioned our own hybrids- it was tragic, yes, and I ought to have learned my lesson. But they did not release energy on quite the same scale as does this creature. Its destruction will be...far less dangerous, than its continued existence."
Despite the sorrow he felt at expressing this plan aloud, Tivialous forced a half-smile.
"In essence, we intend to annoy it to death."
ooc: again, tagging Torin in case I got something wrong about Astraeus' opinion.
Just a reminder, Lion, that the dragon was Created thousands of years ago. Tivialous (unlike Adutaine, on the other hand) is an entirely different creature than he was then. One of his enduring character traits is that he strives to perfectly embody his element, but these days he interprets that more as "be warm and gentle" rather than "dazzle everyone with your brilliance".
OOC: Noted. But keep in mind that Akhil has an unfortunate tendency to assume and take things the wrong way-- in which he has interpreted Tivialous's intentions as a way to show off and boss others around. Akhil's pride keeps him from letting others do that. Eventually, though, he might start to see things the other way.
Also, not sure if you're already aware of this, but I'm asking most of my own questions through Akhil. "I do know that now, Akhil," Tivialous replied, but to Akhil it was not enough. "I've changed a lot over the centuries- we all have."
Tivialous pressed on. Its destruction will be...far less dangerous than its continued existence." Tivialous gave a smile to lighten the tension. "In essence, we intend to annoy it to death."
Akhil stopped for a moment to think. An implosion? How could Tivialous be sure that it would happen? Frowning, he turned his back on his old ally, gazing emotionlessly forward at the glowing pools in front of him. Despite Dragonsdeep not being anything like his old, original territory, he had come to appreciate its own unique beauty, and loved it as a home. Some of his Creations, like Sigmund, were born here in these very tunnels, and the older generations of dragons who were created in the original dark lands were beginning to die off.
Change was bound to happen. Akhil had sensed it in himself, in Titanius, definitely in Sigmund, and in Tivialous. But the last was what feared him. He no longer felt like he knew his old friend as well as he did. In fact, were they even friends now? Tivialous seemed to be one who would seize leadership during any cooperative moment, and Akhil resented those who were like that. True, he was exactly like that sometimes, but at least he was aware of it.
But was that Tivialous's true intentions? He forced himself to slow down. He was well aware that he had a bad tendency to assume, and this caused quite a lot of conflicts. He did not want to lose the Light Elemental as a friend. But millennia had passed, and no longer were they the same.
Look at us now, Akhil thought privately, talking like this. Sure, it's for business, but there's no reason to beat around the bush, or address each other like acquaintances. What happened to us?
Pride prevented him from being the first one to openly question their relationship. He would wait for Tivialous to do it. And there was a more pressing matter right now that he should really focus on. He turned his thoughts back to the issue at hand-- the Creation looming hundreds of feet below them. It was stirring. Even now, he could feel its rumbling breaths, and, though he would never openly admit it, even to Titanius (though he knew that the elf would still know), it instilled a sense of fear in him. Fear of losing yet again.
"If I may be honest," he said, twisting his neck to look at the visiting dragon in the eye, "the plan is... unstable. For an implosion to truly happen, the external force must overcome the internal force and the object will concentrate its matter and energy and crumple within itself. An implosion is not natural. If your idea is to poke at it until it combusts of vexation, then it will explode. The energy that holds it together will be released outwardly.
"I suggest that we gather all the Elementals possible, and maybe our children too, and create the external force that compels the forces that hold the Creation together to crumble. That, in itself, will requires the efforts of many, and in doing it, I am afraid that all the different forces from all these different elements will be at conflict at each other, as they are within this monster, as opposed to against the forces of the Creation. I will be honest with you-- your original plan has holes, based, I think (and correct me if I am wrong), upon the assumption that implosions come naturally."
ooc: Just letting you know that Dragonsdeep has only been inhabited by the Dark dragons for a few weeks, so the older dragons wouldn't be dying off yet. =) Darkflame, who is only something like five years old, witnessed the destruction of her old home and was deeply affected by it.
bic: Tivialous smiled sadly, doing his best to drop some of the formality from his tone. Akhil had noticed it, and apparently didn't welcome the change. This could only be a good sign.
"Guilt, I suppose. I should have come sooner, and you...are understandably disappointed in my actions."
He chuckled. "I hardly implied that the 'implosion' would be natural. But provided that we are all united in our intention, and the plan is sound, I don't mind what form it takes. I am happy to follow through with your alteration."
OOC: I'm gonna finish this up, since the plot thread already started. "Guilt, I suppose. I should have come sooner, and you...are understandably disappointed in my actions."
"I hardly implied that the 'implosion' would be natural. But provided that we are all united in our intention, and the plan is sound, I don't mind what form it takes. I am happy to follow through with your alteration," said the Light deity.
Akhil could sense Tivialous backing off, and so he decided to, too. A tension that he didn't know was there seemed to melt away as he relaxed, and blinked warmly at his old friend.
Shrugging nonchalantly, he replied, "it was merely a strong suggestion. I am prone to think logically, as you might know." He paused for a moment, making his decision. "Then it will be so. We'll attack the Creation soon, and I will send Sigmund out to the other Elementals to tell them to congregate in the Gathering Cavern. We'll put an end to this nonsense once and for all. It's time my Creations had some peace." He hesitated again, before adding, "it was nice talking to you, Tiv."
Samantha: And Paradox was amazing Dae! I enjoyed writing Adutaine opposite them. =)

Samantha: I get that Blazeh, no worries. <3 The site is pretty dead, it was just me and 27th and we couldn't keep it going on our own.
Apr 23, 2018 12:00:45 GMT
DaeSiggil: Oops, I know I haven't often helped by disappearing as I did. But still thinking about this place! <3
Apr 18, 2018 16:11:08 GMT
Verridith: Hey hon, love you guys but haven't seen anything happen since 2017 ;A; hope all are well! But have to remove you from BTACD's sister sites. I'm sorry! </3 </3 </3
Apr 6, 2018 12:22:38 GMT
Samantha: Exactly! It can be tricky, back home most of my friends are just from school, university or work. xD And it was lovely. They were all so lovely, the ones I was with spent the whole time talking about history, it was fun and edumacational.
Sept 30, 2017 10:02:29 GMT
27th: Wow! You got to have dinner with the authors? Making new friends is always nice. I know that struggle as I don't socialize like my peers.
Sept 12, 2017 18:00:11 GMT
Samantha: that great at doing haha (I don't like going out to parties and stuff, which seems to be the main way people my age socialise.)
Sept 11, 2017 23:11:00 GMT
Samantha: -looks at timestamp on last reply- Eeeek, apologies for the delay! But yeah it was AMAZING. My favourite author signed my favourite book, and we even had dinner with the authors one of the nights. Plus, I made some new friends, which I don't tend to be
Sept 11, 2017 23:10:37 GMT
27th: That sounds very cool! I would have loved going to something like that.
Aug 20, 2017 21:03:22 GMT
Samantha: It just means 'science fiction and fantasy.' So it was a conference for authors of these things, and scholars who study them!
Aug 19, 2017 21:10:27 GMT
27th: Glad you had a good time in Sweden! What is SFF?
Aug 11, 2017 16:08:48 GMT
Samantha: Sorry for the disappearance. I was in Sweden for an SFF conference- it was pretty cool!
Aug 11, 2017 10:48:27 GMT
Samantha: It's sad, yeah. We need more members to have more staff, we need more staff to keep the place active, and we need to have the place active to get more members. Sort of a vicious cycle. =P
Jul 31, 2017 16:46:13 GMT
Samantha: The problem is that the main person who likes to run contests, Riv, also has a tendency to disappear. xD And I don't have the time and the energy to run this place proper on my own.
Jul 31, 2017 16:45:38 GMT
27th: Yes, it is a lot of work. Though, I agree it could be worth the effort. As far as contests go, we've tried them here at DotE before. I don't know how well any of them worked but we it couldn't hurt to try.
Jul 30, 2017 5:53:42 GMT
R: Could try a contest?
Jul 29, 2017 4:40:04 GMT
shadow: Well. Yea. That also is a lot of work. It would be worth it though
Jul 28, 2017 4:12:51 GMT
27th: Well, recruitment would be key to that. Contacting the members we already have to try and get them to participate here would also be part of that.
Jul 26, 2017 15:52:29 GMT
shadow: I wonder what would happen if we tried to make it alive again
Jul 25, 2017 19:48:19 GMT
