Sons & Daughters
Criss, son of the Water and Fire Elementals, is an angry and conflicted young dragon with a buried heart of gold. While many dragons are most at home in the sea or the sky, Criss prefers to keep his feet firmly planted on the ground, thank you so very much. But if he could only embrace his Water heritage, he would find that he can breathe underwater just as well as he can breathe air!
Talbot raised his head as he looked out towards the tree's. This place was so quiet, which he was thankful for he supposed. His yellow eyes would move over the makeshift bed that Trevor had built for Ivy. They knew that this time was coming, but it still didn't make the dragon feel any better over himself. Ivy's life was coming to an end and he didn't want to be without a rider so Trevor would take her place even though the boy and the dragon both knew no one could really replace Ivy. Talbot had tried to call for his father, he knew how much Ivy had loved Tiv and Tam no doubt Tam and her were probably friends. As the red dragon shifted folding his wings against his body. As soon as Ivy was comfortable the dragon laid onto the earth. Curling around the sick girl as he smiled. "How are you feeling?" Talbot asked. The woman laughed at him pulling up the blanket that she had as she was on the forest floor.
"I feel like crap of course." she muttered as she breathed. Trevor sat on his knees near her. "I guess it's a good a time as any to explain to your dad who Trevor is as well." She said as Talbot chuckled towards the woman. "If you could let my son know.... that'd be appreciated." she said as Trevor clenched his fists a little. Talbot let out a soft gurgle from his throat, a draconic purr if it must be described that way.
Tam sat crossed-legged on the leaves, coat discarded messily at her side in the afternoon warmth. She'd known Ivy was unwell, and yet, a part of her had always thought it would turn out okay. Even after everything they'd been through together- after they'd nearly lost her in Dragonsdeep, and then Tam had become separated from both Ivy and Talbot- she'd clung to that hope. Ivy had been her first human friend on this island. Letting go was bound to hurt.
"Trevor," Tivialous mused. He stood apart from them, a little behind Talbot, there if his son needed him but not wanting to intrude too much. As he spoke, his gaze swung towards the male human and he smiled softly. "Whoever you are, you are obviously important to Ivy and Talbot, and you are always welcome here."
Tam barely registered what he was saying. She leaned forward slightly- she wanted to hug Ivy or- lie of lies- even just tell her it was going to be okay. Instead, she only managed to shrug and form a half-articulate, somewhat irrelevant response.
Talbot let a huff escape his throat slightly. No human doctor could've saved Ivy and for that he was upset about. It had been a long discussion between Trevor and Ivy themselves to decide that Talbot would be left with the boy. As Trevor was spoken to, the dark haired male looked to Tiv with his golden eyes carefully. "Ahhh thank you... I'm a bit of a friend of theirs. We knew this was a long time coming... I'm going to be Talbots new rider." he placed a hand on the back of his head. Talbot raised his tail slightly as his attention was grasped on the sick woman on the ground where she had made herself comfortable.
Ivy looked to Tam and smiled. She breathed carefully - knowing and seeing how upset she was. "Don't look so sad." she said for a moment. "Yeah, his name is Hajime he's an adult though so there's no need to worry about that boy." She looked at Talbot for a moment. "Doctors said it'd be like falling asleep, but this is the scariest thing I've gone through." she fought back tears as she tried to calm herself down. Talbot gave a low huff of concern.
Tivialous did his best to focus on Trevor in that moment, although he felt sorry for Ivy and knew that Talbot and Tam needed him right now. It stung to know that he couldn't give them all the attention they deserved- there just wasn't enough time.
"A friend of Talbot's is a friend of mine," he asserted, "and I'm sure you will serve him well, Trevor."
Tam took Ivy's lead and focused on her own breathing. Don't look so sad... she couldn't help that, but at least she could avoid completely losing it in front of her friend when she needed her most. But when Ivy herself began to cry, tears welled up and Tam had to look away.
"That makes sense," she managed.
Tivialous moved closer to Talbot, brushing his tail gently against his paw in a characteristically draconic gesture of concern. He looked towards Ivy, lying frightened on the ground, and gently inclined his head towards her.
Talbot made sure his head was close to Ivy. As he could feel her fading. She weakly pressed a hand towards his snout, all Trevor felt he could do was watch them a little in awe. It wasn't long before the silence drew out. Ivy passed without saying much of another word, unable to draw them out it seemed. Talbot huffed a little as he let his wings shift slightly. The death of one rider wasn't uncommon because of how long they would live - however Ivy was young and Talbot had expected her for many more years. Though he did suppose illness would always take its tole. He lifted his head and looked towards his father.
"I don't think there will be another rider like her." He chuckled lightly. Trevor smiled and nodded his head a bit in some agreement. As he folded his hands together the human bowed a little in respect. He was going to leave his old life behind and live here with Talbot. The adjustment was going to be strange for the young boy.
Tivialous went to Talbot's side. This wasn't the first time a child of his had lost a Rider, and it did often seem that the Lesser Elementals developed stronger connections with their Riders than their parents did. He knew he needed to be there for Talbot. Other matters could wait.
"She was a unique human being," he agreed. "You're lucky to have met her."
He looked next at Trevor and then across at Tam. The young Rider hadn't moved, except to place one hand on top of Ivy's own. Now she pressed her free arm against her eyes, took a deep breath, and looked up. She'd been crying, but only a little so Tivialous wasn't sure that Talbot would be able to tell, given the only real indication was a softening at the corners of her eyes.
"She was pretty cool," Tam managed. "I'll miss her."
Samantha: And Paradox was amazing Dae! I enjoyed writing Adutaine opposite them. =)

Samantha: I get that Blazeh, no worries. <3 The site is pretty dead, it was just me and 27th and we couldn't keep it going on our own.
Apr 23, 2018 12:00:45 GMT
DaeSiggil: Oops, I know I haven't often helped by disappearing as I did. But still thinking about this place! <3

Verridith: Hey hon, love you guys but haven't seen anything happen since 2017 ;A; hope all are well! But have to remove you from BTACD's sister sites. I'm sorry! </3 </3 </3

Samantha: Exactly! It can be tricky, back home most of my friends are just from school, university or work. xD And it was lovely. They were all so lovely, the ones I was with spent the whole time talking about history, it was fun and edumacational.

27th: Wow! You got to have dinner with the authors? Making new friends is always nice. I know that struggle as I don't socialize like my peers.
Sept 12, 2017 18:00:11 GMT
Samantha: that great at doing haha (I don't like going out to parties and stuff, which seems to be the main way people my age socialise.)
Sept 11, 2017 23:11:00 GMT
Samantha: -looks at timestamp on last reply- Eeeek, apologies for the delay! But yeah it was AMAZING. My favourite author signed my favourite book, and we even had dinner with the authors one of the nights. Plus, I made some new friends, which I don't tend to be
Sept 11, 2017 23:10:37 GMT
27th: That sounds very cool! I would have loved going to something like that.
Aug 20, 2017 21:03:22 GMT
Samantha: It just means 'science fiction and fantasy.' So it was a conference for authors of these things, and scholars who study them!
Aug 19, 2017 21:10:27 GMT
27th: Glad you had a good time in Sweden! What is SFF?
Aug 11, 2017 16:08:48 GMT
Samantha: Sorry for the disappearance. I was in Sweden for an SFF conference- it was pretty cool!
Aug 11, 2017 10:48:27 GMT
Samantha: It's sad, yeah. We need more members to have more staff, we need more staff to keep the place active, and we need to have the place active to get more members. Sort of a vicious cycle. =P
Jul 31, 2017 16:46:13 GMT
Samantha: The problem is that the main person who likes to run contests, Riv, also has a tendency to disappear. xD And I don't have the time and the energy to run this place proper on my own.
Jul 31, 2017 16:45:38 GMT
27th: Yes, it is a lot of work. Though, I agree it could be worth the effort. As far as contests go, we've tried them here at DotE before. I don't know how well any of them worked but we it couldn't hurt to try.
Jul 30, 2017 5:53:42 GMT
R: Could try a contest?
Jul 29, 2017 4:40:04 GMT
shadow: Well. Yea. That also is a lot of work. It would be worth it though
Jul 28, 2017 4:12:51 GMT
27th: Well, recruitment would be key to that. Contacting the members we already have to try and get them to participate here would also be part of that.
Jul 26, 2017 15:52:29 GMT
shadow: I wonder what would happen if we tried to make it alive again
