Sons & Daughters
Criss, son of the Water and Fire Elementals, is an angry and conflicted young dragon with a buried heart of gold. While many dragons are most at home in the sea or the sky, Criss prefers to keep his feet firmly planted on the ground, thank you so very much. But if he could only embrace his Water heritage, he would find that he can breathe underwater just as well as he can breathe air!
BIC: With Darkflame's cry, D turned to look and joined his voice with hers, "Quintus!"
Eetu, finally noticing Darkflame's struggles, flew below her, ready to catch her if she couldn't continue. He also hoped his updrafts would give her much needed air and a smoother flight. He saw the familiar figure of the Air Ambassador and felt a flood of relief. He hadn't seen Quintus since he had gotten separated from their group in Ice and he had wondered for so long. That just left one of their group unaccounted for: Selgar.
Perhaps Quintus would have the answer.
OOC: The orange one.
D couldn't hide his size or his color even if he tried. Its like the first thing others notice about him but at least they remember him.
Quintus stood tall and watched the three Creations swoop in to land. Now that they were closer he recognised the smaller dark-furred dragon, but the blue-white drake was unfamiliar. He reminded him of an Air Creation he knew, but this dragon was not him. This dragon felt...different. They were not of the same element.
"D, Darkflame and friend," Quintus said, by way of greeting. "What brings you here?"
Since Eetu didn't actually know Quintus, he decided to let D take the lead in this conversation.
"We've come to find you, Quintus. We have some news to share and we hoped to receive some news in return," D said.
Here, the Life creation hesitated. He hated to bring bad news and he had broken it last time, with Eetu. Yet, he felt Eetu's reluctance to speak and he understood why. So, after taking a moment to gather himself, he resumed.
"I have spoken with my Elemental and she informed Darkflame and me that our friend, MoonJem, did not survive the Quake. You can imagine the grief that we have felt. We knew at once that we needed to find the rest of our group. The bonds forged in Ice were not forgotten by us, at least. While traveling through Light, we found Eetu and he has joined us on our journey here," D said, flicking his tail to indicate the white dragon that stood calmly beside him.
Eetu decided to introduce himself so that Quintus no longer had to wonder who he was, "I am a Light creation, if you hadn't gathered that. I was with the group in Ice and was, unfortunately separated from them there. I managed to make it back to Light but I never knew whether they had survived or not. From what D has told me, I am grateful that they had your assistance when they desperately needed it and I thank you for everything you have done." Eetu hadn't let his gaze shift from Quintus and gave a formal dip of his head as he finished speaking.
"We've also come to you, Quintus to find out news of Selgar. We had hoped he was with your or you would at least know his whereabouts," D added.
Quintus smiled and inclined his own head in response to Eetu- it felt good to have his efforts noted! But his smile faded when D next spoke, and he looked towards Darkflame, well aware that she was likely to give the most emotional response of the three.
"He's not with me," Quintus said after a moment. "He disappeared yesterday. I suspect you might already know where he's gone. I'm sorry."
To his surprise, Darkflame did not immediately respond. She closed her eyes, her most expressive physical trait, but otherwise remained frozen. Quintus was not sure what to make of this- whether it was a welcome change, or whether she would only degenerate later on. He switched his attention to D and Eetu in turn.
*** tag! 27th, and also Rordrik for reference to events we were discussing.
I chose not to give Darkflame's thoughts as it's interesting to experience her reaction from somebody else's perspective. We'll return to her soon enough! Also, as a note, Selgar's disappearance came about because he was summoned to the Ice Realm by Viamor, which is what Quintus suspects has happened again based on what they'd discussed of that event.
D immediately felt his heart sink, a feeling that was beginning to become familiar to the usually optimistic dragon. While he was happy to know that Quintus was fine, he realized that he had not been overly concerned about the Air Ambassador. He knew full well that this dragon could take care of himself. It was really Selgar they had come for and now to find out that he had actually disappeared! How could they have come this close and miss him just like that?
Eetu felt his own hope take a hit but his mood had not been as high as D's. He looked at his younger friends, measuring Darkflame's reaction, especially. Of all of them, she had been the most sensitive. To be fair, she had been closest to Selgar so of course to hear news of this sort would affect her most. The white dragon had hoped that they would find closure on this visit to Air and to be denied that was very disappointing.
"With Viamor, no doubt. Back to his creator," Eetu growled, his eyes darkening as he remembered their first visit to Ice.
"This feels just like last time," D said with a groan.
Darkflame couldn't believe this was happening again. How could he go back, after all Viamor put him through? He'd explained it to her before, she knew that it wasn't really a conscious choice, but even so...she was unable to understand how he could just fly back into danger like that.
"You were supposed to look after him," she growled accusingly. "Quintus, you promised us."
He lifted his chin, taken aback by her sudden shift in mood:
"I can't be everywhere at once," he said stiffly. "I said I would do everything I could to keep Selgar safe, and I did, but even so I can't ignore my duties as Air Ambassador."
Darkflame was barely listening. Selgar, her oldest and closest friend, had done so much for her. He'd reassured her about her fears long before D had entered the picture...he hadn't been quite the same after they rescued him, but she had thought he'd come right. She certainly hadn't expected him to go back there!
"We can't leave him," she managed to say.
ooc: tag 27th! Also Torin at any time after this point, feel free to have Ast turn up and be like "Yo Quinny ma boy, you're taking Tam to Dragonsdeep okay?"
At Darkflame's growl, D knew exactly how she felt, even if he couldn't agree with her. He whisked his tail tip along her flank, hoping to steady her. He knew full well that Quintus, as an Ambassador, could not just be another dragon's keeper, especially if that dragon wasn't even of his own Element. He also knew that Selgar didn't have much choice in what he did and where he went if Viamor really wanted to express his power over his creations, which he so often did. So, while he understood, he was definitely not happy about it.
"I agree we can't just leave him there," D said.
Eetu looked frustrated and sorrowful, all at once. "I agree with you both but I just don't see what the point would be. Will we forever have to retrieve Selgar from his Elemental's clutches? What power do we have against an Elemental? We almost died last time. Do you really think we could survive a second rescue attempt into Ice? Much as I want to help Selgar, would it be worth risking our lives for a hopeless cause?"
Darkflame would usually be reassured by D's action. This time, she shifted away from him, too caught up in this realisation to be reassured. Selgar. I'm sorry.
At Eetu's words, she looked up sharply.
"You don't have to come with us. But it's not a lost cause. He's our friend."
Quintus shifted his weight awkwardly.
"Actually, I agree with your friend Eetu. Viamor is an Elemental. If he wanted to kill you, don't you think you'd already be dead? If you interrupt his plans now, what do you think he'll do?"
In his heart, he knew that they very likely could have been dead, if he hadn't intervened. Perhaps the political implications of killing an Ambassador had been enough to make even Viamor back off. But he kept this to himself.
ooc: I think Torin will post in this one at some stage but I'll do a Darkflame reply for now.
"Darkflame, I understand how upset you are. This upsets me, too. Don't look at it as giving up on Selgar. Though, as creations, we are not strong enough. We weren't strong enough last time and we will certainly not be strong enough this time," Eetu said, staying calm despite the dread clutching at his heart at the mere thought of going back to Ice.
D was silent as his friends discussed the situation. He hated arguing, much as his Elemental did. He just couldn't stay silent the entire time because he couldn't soothe things by his presence alone like Fazoola could.
"Darkflame, what would Selgar want us to do? Would he really want us to risk our lives a second time to save him? He knows far better than we do that he cannot be saved. Viamor will never let his creations go free. He is not kind or caring or gentle with his creations. If Dragonsdeep taught me anything its that even the Elementals cannot control one another," D said, purple eyes dark with emotion.
Astraeus was flying steadily, wings flapping in powerful strokes as he darted through the air. Much to Haikal's relief the Elemental did not try any of his reckless tricks while Tam was on his back. The young man would hate for her to accidentally fall off while Astraeus rolled or dove at speeds that were impossible for other dragons; apparently Astraeus did too. Good. His fingers curled into his Elemental's soft fur and Astraeus turned his head to acknowledge it. The corner his his mouth lifted and Haikal smiled back. Later, when things calmed down they would go flying together. For now though, there was the matter at hand: find Quintus. Honestly, it didn't take as long as it could have.
Air's ambassador stood among a group of other dragons talking about something. Whatever it was, Astraeus noted, it was something rather serious, something about the Elementals he barely caught. He circled once then landed a short distance away from the group then proceeded to pad up the Creations; their seriousness curbing his own happy nature just a little. He smiled brightly at them. "Hello all. D, Quintus." He nodded to each then set his gaze to the others. "I don't know your names, but hello to you too!"
Tam looked at each of these new dragons in turn. Quintus she recognised, as he'd been Air's Ambassador for at least as long as she'd been on the island. D...she knew that name, but this was the first time she'd met Fazoola's Ambassador in the flesh. And Eetu...how could she ever forget Eetu? She vividly remembered how upset her Elemental had been when he thought the Creation had died in the Ice. Even though he'd returned seeing him now, anxious but otherwise unhurt, was a weird sensation.
The dragoness with them was an unknown. Tam stepped forward, deciding it would probably be best to introduce herself as well.
"I'm Tam, Rider to Light. Astraeus is awesome, but this is sadly only a temporary arrangement," she smiled at the Elemental.
Darkflame didn't know what to make of the mortals- she hadn't seen very many in her life- but maybe they could help them help Selgar? No matter what Eetu and D said, it was worth a shot. They weren't Elementals. The Elemental would know best.
Being in the Air territory of course it could be expected that the Air Elemental would pay a visit. Yet, it was still a surprise to see Astraeus land and greet them all. D had been so focused on their discussion that he hadn't been paying close attention to their surroundings. Not to mention the two Riders that he had with him. What was Light's Rider doing with Air?
"Tam! What are you doing here? Where's Tivialous?" Eetu flicked his tail with unease at what this potentially mean. Please not more bad news.
D was surprised also that Darkflame introduced herself so readily to a strange Elemental but Astraeus was always welcoming and she was surrounded by friends. That probably helped the small dragoness a lot. He turned his attention back to Air.
"Its good to see you, again, Astraeus. I hope you don't mind my informal visit with your Ambassador," D said with a meaningful glance at Quintus.
Having an Elemental in their midst would help with everything because they certainly hadn't had an Elemental on their side the last time they had tried to help Selgar or travel in Dragonsdeep. Though, being Air Ambassador, it was up to Quintus to begin that conversation.
"Eh, he's fine. He's a big boy, he can take care of himself. Nice to meet you, Darkflame."
She'd turned to the Dark Creation as she said this, but the small dragoness wouldn't meet her gaze. It was odd- there was a strange tension in the air. What had they been discussing before Astraeus arrived?
Quintus had come forward, and so she turned her attention now to him as he inclined his head politely.
"Astraeus, sir, it is good to see you. I have presently...relayed these dragons some unwelcome news."
ooc: Right I'm back. Will reply to this thread more regularly from now on. I think it was Torin's turn so I hope she doesn't mind me posting now, since it's been a little while.
Note Quintus' awkward speech- he doesn't enjoy this situation he now finds himself in. =P

Samantha: Exactly! It can be tricky, back home most of my friends are just from school, university or work. xD And it was lovely. They were all so lovely, the ones I was with spent the whole time talking about history, it was fun and edumacational.
Sept 30, 2017 10:02:29 GMT
27th: Wow! You got to have dinner with the authors? Making new friends is always nice. I know that struggle as I don't socialize like my peers.
Sept 12, 2017 18:00:11 GMT
Samantha: that great at doing haha (I don't like going out to parties and stuff, which seems to be the main way people my age socialise.)
Sept 11, 2017 23:11:00 GMT
Samantha: -looks at timestamp on last reply- Eeeek, apologies for the delay! But yeah it was AMAZING. My favourite author signed my favourite book, and we even had dinner with the authors one of the nights. Plus, I made some new friends, which I don't tend to be
Sept 11, 2017 23:10:37 GMT
27th: That sounds very cool! I would have loved going to something like that.
Aug 20, 2017 21:03:22 GMT
Samantha: It just means 'science fiction and fantasy.' So it was a conference for authors of these things, and scholars who study them!
Aug 19, 2017 21:10:27 GMT
27th: Glad you had a good time in Sweden! What is SFF?
Aug 11, 2017 16:08:48 GMT
Samantha: Sorry for the disappearance. I was in Sweden for an SFF conference- it was pretty cool!
Aug 11, 2017 10:48:27 GMT
Samantha: It's sad, yeah. We need more members to have more staff, we need more staff to keep the place active, and we need to have the place active to get more members. Sort of a vicious cycle. =P
Jul 31, 2017 16:46:13 GMT
Samantha: The problem is that the main person who likes to run contests, Riv, also has a tendency to disappear. xD And I don't have the time and the energy to run this place proper on my own.
Jul 31, 2017 16:45:38 GMT
27th: Yes, it is a lot of work. Though, I agree it could be worth the effort. As far as contests go, we've tried them here at DotE before. I don't know how well any of them worked but we it couldn't hurt to try.
Jul 30, 2017 5:53:42 GMT
R: Could try a contest?
Jul 29, 2017 4:40:04 GMT
shadow: Well. Yea. That also is a lot of work. It would be worth it though
Jul 28, 2017 4:12:51 GMT
27th: Well, recruitment would be key to that. Contacting the members we already have to try and get them to participate here would also be part of that.
Jul 26, 2017 15:52:29 GMT
shadow: I wonder what would happen if we tried to make it alive again
