Around 6,000 BP, in the midst of The War of Ice and Darkness...
An already hushed tone cut off abruptly, maw snapping shut and head jerking in a different direction. Frills which had lain smoothly down a curvaceous neck stiffened, ragged webs becoming pronounced as yellow eyes widened, alert. The other dragon in immediate company, contrast to the former, had very little shift in visage.
Icarus laid stretched over the forest floor, nestled snug in a small clearing. His neck had been lifted up, craned to gaze at the Creation whom served as his ambassador. Incidentally, the Ambassador, adorned in dark scales like those of his Creator, had just been filling him in on the latest rumors floating around the territories, whispers that the Life Elemental herself intended to pay him a visit. With the Creation's sudden, uneased silence, as with the rest of the forest's, the truth to this gossip became evident.
The Dark Elemental's head dipped down, eyelids shutting over pupilless eyes. His chest lifted out as air flowed in through flared nostrils, then fell as it dispelled back out in a long sigh. The Creation's paws padded at the earth, as though eager to take flight, but a lazy flick of the Elemental's tail brought stillness back into the young dragon. The unspoken command was clear in the vague gesture. Stay.
Icarus's eyes opened once more, illuminating cyan eyes staring out past the Creation into the forest's depths. "Long before, ten manifestations incurred a series of skirmishes to carve this land given to them." In the distance, a deer leaped over the undergrowth — bounding away in an erratic pattern and far out of sight. "Everyone got their share, earning their piece through displays of faculty — some more, some less. Thinking we equal are the musings of a fool."
Icarus paused in his monologue, tail dragging over the forest floor to wave idly behind him. "And yet today we find ourselves still plunged to our throats in war's carnage. An ignoramus's errand, doomed to fail." For a moment, he could feel the prick of the metaphorical thorn in his side, and perhaps that was what finally spurred him to action. The Dark Elemental rose, pushing his torso up from the earth and lifted his haunches up to follow suit, then finally turned to face the Life Elemental, the likes of which had been made to wait through the duration of his soliloquy without so much as a nod of acknowledgement until now. Icarus's snout tilted up, as though in an effort to look down on the larger dragoness. "I presume you're here on a matter of importance."
