Sons & Daughters
Criss, son of the Water and Fire Elementals, is an angry and conflicted young dragon with a buried heart of gold. While many dragons are most at home in the sea or the sky, Criss prefers to keep his feet firmly planted on the ground, thank you so very much. But if he could only embrace his Water heritage, he would find that he can breathe underwater just as well as he can breathe air!
27th: It's actually not a coincidence, haha. xD I semi-quit my formal karate training a few months back, but my instructor said he would like me to come back to help out with those things; as I am small and non-threatening looking, and so people won't be too concerned about working with me/letting me pretend to attack them. The last few sessions got cancelled, but this one was not, and it was nice.
Is M still the middle three fingers flat on the palm in ASL? I know there are differences between different sign-languages, I'm just wondering if the letters are the same, haha.
That's so cool, though! I don't think I could muster up your dedication just for a monthly course. It's a shame you don't see your aunt/cousin a lot, because having people like that around to practice with sounds super useful.
That's really cool, Sam. I was never interested in learning martial arts but I had a cousin that was into tai kwon do and other cousins that actually teach karate.
I've got the alphabet and numbers down for the most part so now I've moved on to practicing everybody's name! As for M, in ASL, you make your hand into a fist with your thumb tucked under your other fingers but over your pinky. There are quite a few differences between the different sign languages, actually. Like spoken languages, if they share the same root language then they may have a few overlapping or similar signs.
Yeah. Timothy actually lives here but my aunt lives about forty-five minutes away. It's not that they aren't around, we just don't spend a lot of time together.
Yeah, I noticed! All the ASL letters seem to be with one hand, whereas many of the symbols for NZSL require two hands...which seems a little impractical, since then you can't talk and do things at the same time?
Oooh right okay, gotcha. Yeah, I have a few cousins like that, haha. We're in the same city, but I don't often talk to them outside of Facebook.
Have any of you played "Risk:Legacy"? My brother has a copy. We just played it like normal "Risk" since he's reluctant to draw on the board and stuff, but I love the art for the different factions. (I was the Saharan Empire, but next time I might try to be Imperial Balkania because a) purple b) EPIC CAPES).
You need both hands when you sign. You can get away with it for some things as long as you're mouthing/saying it. If you're spelling it out you only use your right hand, but in general for signing you use both hands.
I've only played Transformers Risk (I was Megatron) and modified Risk: Legacy, but I enjoy the game. It's like a very, very light rpg. Though I will admit to trying to use sob stories to stop my family from attacking my units, haha...
It can potentially be quite a long game, akin to Monopoly (which I'm not a huge fan of); but our rounds so far have been shorter due to my brother being so much better at the game than the rest of us.
(for reference; here are the factions from Legacy- with Saharan Republic and Imperial Balkania being the aforementioned favourites, woo!).
I wanna learn sign language but I am super lame. I want to learn a martial art, too, but again I am super lame. xD
Hi, I'm Kunabee, there is a 0.00001% chance you will ever know my real name, but if you want me you can pretty much find me now - I'm Kunabee on Facebook, Skype, Neopets, etc... If I rp with you in a thread or talk to you for like 3 replies one time ever I consider you a friend. It's okay shhh I do things fast.
I'm completely random, love smiley faces and the enter button, and a poet. I write. A lot. All the time. I write poetry mostly but if my muse is high enough you'll get a roleplay post or I'll write more on my "baby story" or I'll write a short story. Poetry's easy I can whip it out in no time flat. Haikus are fun, limericks are a challenge (funny? what?) and sometimes I like to mimic e.e. cummings.
Fantasy is my everything. My world is fantasy. I do the fantasy. I like to play lots of indie rpg's and love visual novels and dating sims and basically a crapton of games. Not the biggest fan of WoW but eh, it's okay. I'd probably adore Skyrim but alas I AM A BROKE PERSON and who knows when I will get my hands on it. My favorite magical creatures are unicorns and dragons; my favorite real life animals are felines and canines. No, not cats and dogs. Felines and canines. As in cats and dogs and tigers and coyotes and etc. Though I am officially more of a cat person than a dog person. Le sigh.
I commonly refer to myself as a cat. Cat toys entertain me. I am both easily bored and easily entertained. It's a weird dichotomy. I know a lot of words and have an obsession with the world 'hiraeth' because it's freaking gorgeous.
I know some Japanese (took it for six years, up to level four, but forgot most of it) and will add phrases of whatever languages I know into my chat. Mostly Japanese cuz really I can only count up to 10 in Spanish and 3 in German, and I can say hello in Spanish and French. I can count up to 999 in Japanese though ^.^ (ichi ni san shi go roku nana hachi kyu juu juu-ichi juu-ni...)
I am not so easily squeamish though I have phobias: parasites and surgery. Bugs scare me but not to the extent those things do, and needles scare me a bit too. I'm fine with blood and puke and gore and all that stuff and don't mind getting dirty. Hey, I like the dirt I am the pickiest person on Earth and the list of foods I'll eat is shorter than the list I won't.
Religious wise I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. AKA, I'm Mormon. I will happily answer any questions. I love talking about religion as long as nobody's being rude.
I complain. A lot. You can complain a lot, too. I'm always willing to listen. I also rant publicly. If (and this is a very unlikely thing) I have an issue with another member I'll keep it private. But any other issues are free reign xD
I'll also brag about my freaking amazing boyfriend. I adore him. Alas he lives in Ohio and I live in Colorado, which is terrible because that's a 300$ round trip plane ticket. Ish. But at least he's in the same country. Two hours ahead of me, too
I like to code and will whine about that. I'm working on 50 different stories and games and you will hear "YES I WAS A SUCCESS AT THIS" or "noo why is this not working" often. I'm pretty much an over-sharer. I will go TMI on you about many things. Things that make most people lose their appetites. I'm fine with it, but whatever.
I pretty much stop whatever if you tell me to, though. I'm nice like that x3
That's about everything, I think. Sorry for my wall of text xD
Ooooooo, you're Mormon? What do Mormons believe? *is so curious, forgive me please.* I want to know what other people believe that I don't. it's interesting. And if anyone doesn't want to know, say so now and Kuna you can pm me. I have no doubt we'll probably get into a discussion about this.
You still play Neopets? Kewl! We used to be based there, but I stopped using my guild account shortly after we left and just stuck to my N.T. account. I like Eyries and Kougras best. My favourite colour is probably Darigan, and my favourite site-character is Eliv Thade. My favourite land is Darigan Citadel and I always supported them back when I used to play the cup.
I feel like I can't enjoy a roleplay without at least SOME fantasy elements, haha. I love Skyrim, would fully recommend it if you ever can get it cheap. Dragons have been my favourite mythical beastie since pretty much forever. =P You can summon an undead dragon in Skyrim and it's great. You can also fight dragons- that's less great because I always end up getting deep fried. >.<
My favorite mythical creature is the werewolf. Now I feel like a freak. -.-
Na, werewolves are great! I guess I don't really think of humanoid things when considering my favourite mythical beasts...dragons are probably my favourite regardless, but werewolves are pretty awesome when portrayed well.
I didn't think about that. I do love dragons (obviously) but if I were going for mythical beasts then I really like unicorns and griffins. I agree with you, Sam. Werewolves are awesome when portrayed well. Not crazy about them when they aren't.
First thing's first, we're Christians. Whatever else, we believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins and that Heavenly Father is the one true God. Some argue that we're not Christians but as far as I'm concerned we have all the key points. The proper way to refer to us is technically "LDS". We have both the Bible and the Book of Mormon as our holy books. The Book of Mormon was the weird thing, and when Joseph Smith (our prophet) was first putting the church together there was a lot of persecution. We were called "Mormons" because we "worshipped" Mormon, which isn't true. He was just a prophet of God. The Book of Mormon is basically like the Bible if it took place in North America. It says the same stuff. It just covers a continent that isn't covered in the Bible. We believe we have a prophet called of God who shares God's word with us. He's currently Thomas S. Monson, and I like him. I liked our old prophet better, but President Monson is still totally a prophet and all-around good guy. As a Mormon, I have always been encouraged to pray and ask God and also search within myself and the holy books to find my own answer. I share some beliefs that differ from the main church (such as my support of gay marriage). Joseph Smith's whole big story is that he asked God for his answer of which church to join. Some call us a cult, but honestly if the church is a cult then every religion is a cult. We also get accused of racism a lot, because we didn't let blacks hold the priesthood. At a time when blacks couldn't even join churches and churches were segregated. So they worshiped with us but didn't get the special thing. As opposed to being completely separate. Please take a good long look at yourself before judging others, kay? Kay. Anyway that's all the big points I can think of. If you have questions, ask. I am here to answer: I want to spread understanding about my church. I've felt some persecution and even in recent years there's been people who have been beat up and abused because people just don't understand our church. Oh! oh yes. We have a church, which anyone can go into, and a temple, which is sacred. I can't talk a lot about the temple, as it is sacred, but I can tell you what we do in it. We basically do services for the deceased. Spiritually they are there, physically they are not. So no dead bodies. But we do baptisms for them, confirmations, temple sealings, etc. so that they can accept these services (or not!), in case they didn't have a chance to in life. We also do that for adults. Well, not the baptisms and confirmations, but the temple sealings. It's basically like marriage but it seals a family together forever as opposed to just to "death do you part". I hope my boyfriend joins the church so we can get sealed but I won't force him. I have plans to do a temple wedding and then a moderately untraditional marriage where everyone can attend Since the temple only allows members inside, following the guidelines of the church. It's sacred. If you hear of a Mormon temple open house, however, I encourage you to go inside. Our temples are very lovely! The temple is filled with a sense of peace and calm. You can look up pictures of exteriors and interiors of temples; they're all over the internet. I think that's everything I can think of for now. Ask me questions, direct my knowledge bombs
Kougras for the win. I love Faerie. And I love Kougras because I mean... they look good in all their forms in all their colors. It's fabulousness.
And yeah, the least fantasy I get is Pokemon roleplays, haha.
I just want a dragon in real life. Or dinosaurs to be alive again. Either or. I'll take it.
Samantha: And Paradox was amazing Dae! I enjoyed writing Adutaine opposite them. =)
Apr 23, 2018 12:02:57 GMT
Samantha: I get that Blazeh, no worries. <3 The site is pretty dead, it was just me and 27th and we couldn't keep it going on our own.
Apr 23, 2018 12:00:45 GMT
DaeSiggil: Oops, I know I haven't often helped by disappearing as I did. But still thinking about this place! <3
Apr 18, 2018 16:11:08 GMT
Verridith: Hey hon, love you guys but haven't seen anything happen since 2017 ;A; hope all are well! But have to remove you from BTACD's sister sites. I'm sorry! </3 </3 </3
Apr 6, 2018 12:22:38 GMT
Samantha: Exactly! It can be tricky, back home most of my friends are just from school, university or work. xD And it was lovely. They were all so lovely, the ones I was with spent the whole time talking about history, it was fun and edumacational.
Sept 30, 2017 10:02:29 GMT
27th: Wow! You got to have dinner with the authors? Making new friends is always nice. I know that struggle as I don't socialize like my peers.
Sept 12, 2017 18:00:11 GMT
Samantha: that great at doing haha (I don't like going out to parties and stuff, which seems to be the main way people my age socialise.)
Sept 11, 2017 23:11:00 GMT
Samantha: -looks at timestamp on last reply- Eeeek, apologies for the delay! But yeah it was AMAZING. My favourite author signed my favourite book, and we even had dinner with the authors one of the nights. Plus, I made some new friends, which I don't tend to be
Sept 11, 2017 23:10:37 GMT
27th: That sounds very cool! I would have loved going to something like that.
Aug 20, 2017 21:03:22 GMT
Samantha: It just means 'science fiction and fantasy.' So it was a conference for authors of these things, and scholars who study them!
Aug 19, 2017 21:10:27 GMT
27th: Glad you had a good time in Sweden! What is SFF?
Aug 11, 2017 16:08:48 GMT
Samantha: Sorry for the disappearance. I was in Sweden for an SFF conference- it was pretty cool!
Aug 11, 2017 10:48:27 GMT
Samantha: It's sad, yeah. We need more members to have more staff, we need more staff to keep the place active, and we need to have the place active to get more members. Sort of a vicious cycle. =P
Jul 31, 2017 16:46:13 GMT
Samantha: The problem is that the main person who likes to run contests, Riv, also has a tendency to disappear. xD And I don't have the time and the energy to run this place proper on my own.
Jul 31, 2017 16:45:38 GMT
27th: Yes, it is a lot of work. Though, I agree it could be worth the effort. As far as contests go, we've tried them here at DotE before. I don't know how well any of them worked but we it couldn't hurt to try.
Jul 30, 2017 5:53:42 GMT
R: Could try a contest?
Jul 29, 2017 4:40:04 GMT
shadow: Well. Yea. That also is a lot of work. It would be worth it though
Jul 28, 2017 4:12:51 GMT
27th: Well, recruitment would be key to that. Contacting the members we already have to try and get them to participate here would also be part of that.
Jul 26, 2017 15:52:29 GMT
shadow: I wonder what would happen if we tried to make it alive again
