((After the recent discussion of Riders and their Elementals and how they are found, I thought I'd make this. I think this is largely the idea that we were going with, but if things seem off let me know.))
Viamor sighed to himself, standing within his archives staring at the latest failure. Kiana, his last rider, had gone and gotten herself mixed up with the experiments and gotten just a little too close. She had paid for her mistake and her mangled corpse was now sealed into the ice for all to see the price of failure.
Though this left the Elemental with an issue that was becoming all too familiar. He was without a Rider. The last few had only lasted for a couple months at most, so now he would have to begin seeking out someone else who might fit the role. Unlike many Elementals who probably took greater care and pride in choosing their Riders, Viamor was one who could not be bothered to care enough. He would find one who had an affinity to the pure Ice and see how he or she fared. This was a land that had no room for the weak, the island would take care of any weaklings that happened to have the attunement to catch his attention.
Though that would be an effort for the next day, for now he would at least give her the respect of being dead for a day before moving out to the other Realms in order to search again. There were so many to choose from he would have to at least spend the night in meditation in order to feel that faint hint of the chill in the air on the ley lines in order to track down one whom at least the Elements beyond his control had deemed good enough. He was done trifling with those ignorant weak humans, he would only be satisfied with an elf of some kind. At least they had better sense when drawn into this Realm it seemed.
The meditation was easy enough now, as he had done it many times in the past since so many of his riders had proven weak. Allowing himself to reach out with his mind and powers to the Realms that he could not see without visiting. It was a slow boring process, largely staring at the darkness of the inside of his eyelids while trying to keep his mind focused on that small hint of Ice from afar. It was an imprecise test at best, but it would allow him to at least get a general idea where this one in ten thousand person might be that to find them.
While he rested he was able to hear the faint whisper of the call, a now familiar affinity that tugged deep within his body to his very core. There was no way to really know who they were or where they were more precisely than a mile from here, but it gave him at least some idea of where he might go. They were within the Elven Realm, which was a relief to the aggravated Elemental.
After resting and meditating the night away he was ready to depart. He could not even remember how many times he had left this Realm to travel to the others, the process seeming simple and common to him now. The worst part about it was assuming his small humanoid form, which always made him feel so weak and frail. Going to the Elven Realm it usually was not required, but he would rather be in and out as quick as possible and going in his grand perfection was cause too much of a scene for him to want to bother.
The form he assumed most when the need called for it was a strong built alv form. He stood at just over 2 meters tall dressed in simple blue robes. Nothing to adorn his form as anything more than a simple creature that could usually slip into places largely unnoticed and get this over with.
With a moment's focus and power he was able to channel his being into place between the Realms. Just a dark cold grey place with just the swirl of magic in the air. There was nearly nothing here as just the place that connected the Realms. Within seconds Viamor found the right one and entered in the forest infested Realm of the elves.
That guiding pull had brought him to the outskirts of what seemed to be a small village of the alv. He could feel it, somewhere near here there was a calling to him. A point of pristine Ice that was within one of these creatures that he was determined to find. The alv were much too busy with their magic and self praise, they had no need for things as posted guards in a small village which allowed Viamor to walk right in.
That pull was strong here, he could feel it calling to him. It was a strange feeling, like every part of his insides were being tugged slightly in one direction, guiding his movements through the village. He could not help but shake his head at the 'great' magical creatures living in such simple wooden places, they surely squandered their potential.
Until he saw it. A house slightly separated from the others. Made out of purely white wood and glistening all over with magical runes scribed into its every surface. With just one look, he knew that he had found the place. The whole place reeked of magic and the slight hint of Cold hovered in the air.
As Viamor approached the house someone approached him, a young female alv in white priestly robes. "I would avoid that place if I were you stranger." She warned him.
The Elemental laughed, turning his cold Icy blue eyes to gaze at her. "You would do well to mind your own business and not tell me what to do." He snapped to her, moving ahead despite her warnings.
He came up to the simple, yet glowing home with a grin. Well, at least his new Rider would not need to move much it seemed. He walked right up to the door, having no fear of the defensive runes that were set up. It was simple for the Elemental to rub away at just the right rune, releasing the magic guarding the door in a cold wind. It cooled the disguised dragon, making him feel so much more at home already.
He did no such thing as knock or ask to be let in, he simply opened the now dispelled and unlocked door. The inside was about as simple, and messy, as he had expected. The house was filled with books, quills, scrolls, wands, potions, and all manner of magical materials for study and practice. The place was not at all well kept, everything seeming to be cast around without care.
The resident of the house was sitting at a desk, furiously scribbling away on some piece of parchment. Viamor had to sigh slightly to himself as he looked over this supposed new Rider. They wore great finery, clearly trying to show off in jewelry and fine silks. But from here, Viamor could not even tell if it was male or female.
It did not matter, he began to approach across the piles of things scattered over the floor. "Whoever you are, go away." A seemingly male voice came from the alv.
Viamor laughed aloud at the arrogance of the alv, not at all considering the fact that he was breaking into this alv's home as wrong. "Oh, I am soooo sorry for disturbing your works on things I've surely solved years ago." He scoffed.
His words seemed to strike a nerve as the alv quickly spun about in his chair, eying the newcomer with a look of clear anger. "There is no one here more skilled in Aetherical Warding than I, how did you even get in here?"
The Elemental just grinned broadly to him, walking up to stand just a meter away from him. "I am not who I seem to be, as I am sure you are aware. You will be joining me and I can promise much more promising research and experiments than..." He peered over his shoulder at his notes. "The Bifocus Factor is the cube root of the Aether Flow." He pointed out, solving easily the problem the alv seemed to be having.
The alv narrowed his eyes at this strange newcomer that had come out of nowhere, easily slipping past his carefully fashioned defenses and solving problems that he had been working on for days. As soon as he had said it, it made sense! How could he have been so blind. "Who are you?" He inquired, clearly intrigued.
The Elemental laughed slightly, knowing he had his attention now. "That you will come to know in time. Those brave enough to use my name, call me Viamor. And I am here to promise you much more excitement and ways to change the world than your little shack here."
The male alv smiled slightly, not seeming to be at all intimidated by his words. He was certainly interested in what this man had to say, his thirst for knowledge without end. "And what might that be? Finding a cure for illnesses? How to channel magic into raw storage? How to transport entire structures and armies to specific points of need?" He inquired, clearly bursting with ideas.
Viamor nodded. "Of course, all of those could be useful and would serve my purposes well." He declared, reaching out to place a hand upon the alv's shoulder. "Or shall I say, our purposes?" He smiled, though they may work together Viamor would never see a Rider as anywhere near his equal.
The alv nodded, allowing the brief touch but then shrugging it off soon after. "Very well Viamor, I am Tabae Frostquill. What is it you need me to do?"
The Elemental chuckled to himself, looking about the room. "Pack up your things, its going to be a long trip and I will not want to be bringing you back." He smiled, hoping that this Rider would at least prove competent and last longer than a week.
Tabae nodded, having no real idea of what he was just about to get himself into but it excited him. "Very well Viamor, I will do as you say on one condition. You tell me where we are going."
Viamor sighed slightly, putting a hand to his head. It was a very human-type motion that he would never have done as his true form, but it seemed fitting. How could he even begin to explain a whole new Realm and his new role. He looked up to him slowly. "We are going to a place far away. Farther surely than anywhere you have traveled before. It will take great energy and pissing me off to bring you back here which you assuredly do not want to do."
Tabae stared to him for a moment, looking this strange man up and down. "That's what I thought. You are no alv. I don't know who you are, but you are assuredly not who you appear to be." He declared with a grin, the mystery making it all the more exciting. "There is no alv so strong to brush past my wards. What are you, really?"
Viamor grinned to him, this inquisitive alv was certainly interesting, for one of the puny races. Intelligent and observant perhaps there was much he could be used for. "You are correct, I am no small two-legged creature at all. Do not trifle the details. I promise you a life of study and magic in a place with far greater potential than any little alv town. If you are not interested I can certainly find someone else who is." He backed away from him, having no time to baby Riders.
The alv paused for only a moment, still wanting to consider such a big change. He knew this was a once in a lifetime opportunity. His research here had accomplished a few things, but this new man came along and seemed to offer so much more. He looked to him with a focused stare. "Very well, Viamor, you have yourself a deal. I have no real friends here that will care to see me gone. So, you got the space for my lab and library where we're going?"
Viamor laughed at the question shaking his head. His tower was as wide as this entire village and was taller than any of their precious ancient trees. "Please, my house could fit thousands of these inside. You will have no lack of space little alv."
Tabae narrowed his eyes, looking at the creature who seemed to be very close to his own size. What was he? He was clearly powerful and something so large? Or did he just need to live in some place so big for his own vanity and amusement? "Fine, just give me a while to pack things up. This better be as good as you promise. And you will reveal to me who you really are."
Viamor shrugged, turning around to look around. "Very well, as soon as we arrive you will see who I truly am. You will know why others have come to fear me. You will learn to respect me and if you are not careful you will fear me as well." He growled slightly, showing the more dark and feral nature of the beast within.
Tabae took a moment to look over the backside of the other man as he stood with his back turned. He looked so simple on the outside, no different than any other alv, but the mystery was too great for him to resist. He shrugged aside his worries this was far too exciting to allow himself to be too worried.
Tabae spent the next several minutes collecting up his supplies. Books, parchment, quills, alchemical supplies, clothes, and all the other things he had lying around into backpacks and crates. Viamor assured him that so long as it was condensed into few containers it would easy enough to transport.
Finally he was ready, his home seeming rather empty now as it was all condensed down into the storage containers piled in the middle. "Very well, are you finished?" Viamor sighed, leaning against the wall and watching his would-be rider, not at all having moved to help Tabae through any of the packing. "Its about time, I assumed a mage like yourself would have easier ways of packing."
Tabae sighed, shaking his head as he stood beside his belongings. "I'm sorry, my research is about truly important things. Not making strangers' lives more convenient." He replied.
Viamor gave no more of an answer, instead walked up and began the call to draw the back home to the Dragon Realm.
