Sons & Daughters
Criss, son of the Water and Fire Elementals, is an angry and conflicted young dragon with a buried heart of gold. While many dragons are most at home in the sea or the sky, Criss prefers to keep his feet firmly planted on the ground, thank you so very much. But if he could only embrace his Water heritage, he would find that he can breathe underwater just as well as he can breathe air!
Haikal looked down, watching the beach pass far below them. The tan mass stretched out in eitnoher direction. The man took a breath, letting the smell of salt wash over his senses. The Air Lands didn’t really have a beach like this one. Most were pretty rocky, not soft sand like what seemed to be below them.
Haikal’s head went up a few moments later. The rider pushed himself up and craned his neck to see Time’s island better. “Really?” He looked over at Jester. “That’s odd. Does she have a rider now?” His gaze shifted to his dragon. “Are we ever going to visit Time?” he asked Astraeus.
“Not for a while. Adutaine and I aren’t exactly on the best of terms right now,” Air replied.
Jester nodded his head in response to Haikal's question, "Yes, Adutaine does have a Rider currently. His name is Aiden. He's half elf, half human. He came to the Isle a year after I did. I don't know him that well but he seems nice enough."
Fazoola chuckled at Astraeus' comment. "Not on the best of terms right now? Have you ever been on the best of terms with Adutaine?"
The Life Elemental smiled, her gaze settled over the ocean. She couldn't wait to hear Astraeus' response. She knew that Air was considered annoying to most of the other Elementals. She considered him to be more whimsical rather than annoying. When she had heard that Time and Air had had children she almost couldn't believe it...until she had seen the twins for herself.
“Ah. Well maybe one day I’ll meet him,” Haikal said. He wanted to meet all of the Elementals and their riders if he could. It would be nice to have some sort of a relationship with the few other humans that inhabited this place.
Astraeus let out a bark of laughter at Fazoola’s questions. “Ah yes. Once. Long ago we were very close. I liked her company and she liked mine. Our relationship started going downhill, but we did pick it back up about fifty years ago I believe.” She’d apparently remembered why she didn’t like him not long into it. The twins came out of that short relationship. And unfortunately their children had never been a soft spot for Adutaine either. “It’s not improved since then. It comes and goes whenever it takes her fancy, or more like came and went. I don't believe she'll decide to change her feelings any more. But I don’t mind. Let her think what she thinks about me.”
~~~ Tagging Samantha because Adu's being talked about here. If you want me to change anything just say so!
"I'm certain that you will, Haikal. Has Astraeus told you about Gatherings? That's when all of the Elementals and their Riders get together to talk about what has been happening since the last Gathering. It's a way for all of the Elementals to get up to date with what has been happening on the Isle with their fellow Elementals and territories," Jester explained.
"Oh, that is too bad," Fazoola said with a tone and a look that made it completely unclear whether Life was being sincere or whether she was just joking.
Jester's eyebrows rose at his Elemental's comment, rather surprised. Did she wish Adutaine ill? Or had she secretly disapproved of the relationship between Air and Time? The Rider decided to save these thoughts for another time; he had not forgotten that they were visiting with friends. He considered possibly asking her but he had a feeling that Fazoola would decline to discuss the topic.
“Ah, yes. He did. I just forgot about them. They don’t come up in conversation all that often, so…” Haikal shrugged. When was the next one going to take place? “What are the others like, Jester?”
Astraeus in the meantime had been observing Fazoola. Her comment had not gone unnoticed by him. He was unsure by what she really meant and frankly he was curious about it. Unlike her rider he had no qualms about asking. “And what,” Air started after a moment, “do you mean by that, Life?” He turned his blues eyes to her, hoping that she would actually answer instead of telling him it was nothing important. Oftentimes that was what others said to each other and frankly it was annoying. If one was going to say something in the hearings of others then it certainly was important.
"Other Gatherings or other Riders? If you mean the other Riders of the Elementals then I have met all of them but I can't say I know them well. There are six other Riders for the Elementals. Aiden is the only half elf. There is one full elf named Tabae and he is Ice's Rider. I don't like him much at all. The rest of them are much younger than I am. If I were to take a guess, they are closer to your age than any of them are to mine. Karma is the Rider for Darkness." Here Jester paused, casting his gaze to look at Haikal. It seemed he was measuring his responses, unsure how much or how little to tell the newest Rider. He seemed to make up his mind, for he continued. "I don't trust her. Aleia is the Rider of Fire and I know her least of all of the other Riders but she seems nice enough. I truly do not understand how she became attached to Izett. Tam is Light's Rider and she is nice if a little misguided."
Jester stopped there. He had purposely left out Desmond and he did not go into too much detail. Doing that would take out the fun of meeting the others for Haikal and would also take too much time. Plus, he had heard Astraeus question Fazoola. He truly wanted to hear what his Elemental would say; not sharing something with her Rider was a completely different matter than sharing something with another Elemental, especially Air.
Fazoola was pleased that they were flying and not on the ground. Otherwise, she would have been compelled to look at Air as he spoke to her. Even after knowing him for so many thousands of years, she should have known better than to say something. Of course he would ask. Life was silent for so long that it almost seemed like she was going to ignore Air completely but then she finally slid her gaze to his.
"I am Life and I was still completely taken by surprise when I heard that you had become mates with Time. That was something that I did not believe either of you would do. You are complete opposites in almost all things, save perhaps for your stubbornness. So, I was not surprised to learn that the two of you were together for such a short period of time. I don't see how you could have been happy together but endings always make me feel sad. So, take my first comment however you will, Astraeus," Fazoola said, pulling away from Air slightly in her flight, in order to study him from a different angle.
Samantha: And Paradox was amazing Dae! I enjoyed writing Adutaine opposite them. =)
Samantha: I get that Blazeh, no worries. <3 The site is pretty dead, it was just me and 27th and we couldn't keep it going on our own.
Apr 23, 2018 12:00:45 GMT
DaeSiggil: Oops, I know I haven't often helped by disappearing as I did. But still thinking about this place! <3
Verridith: Hey hon, love you guys but haven't seen anything happen since 2017 ;A; hope all are well! But have to remove you from BTACD's sister sites. I'm sorry! </3 </3 </3
Samantha: Exactly! It can be tricky, back home most of my friends are just from school, university or work. xD And it was lovely. They were all so lovely, the ones I was with spent the whole time talking about history, it was fun and edumacational.
27th: Wow! You got to have dinner with the authors? Making new friends is always nice. I know that struggle as I don't socialize like my peers.
Sept 12, 2017 18:00:11 GMT
Samantha: that great at doing haha (I don't like going out to parties and stuff, which seems to be the main way people my age socialise.)
Sept 11, 2017 23:11:00 GMT
Samantha: -looks at timestamp on last reply- Eeeek, apologies for the delay! But yeah it was AMAZING. My favourite author signed my favourite book, and we even had dinner with the authors one of the nights. Plus, I made some new friends, which I don't tend to be
Sept 11, 2017 23:10:37 GMT
27th: That sounds very cool! I would have loved going to something like that.
Aug 20, 2017 21:03:22 GMT
Samantha: It just means 'science fiction and fantasy.' So it was a conference for authors of these things, and scholars who study them!
Aug 19, 2017 21:10:27 GMT
27th: Glad you had a good time in Sweden! What is SFF?
Aug 11, 2017 16:08:48 GMT
Samantha: Sorry for the disappearance. I was in Sweden for an SFF conference- it was pretty cool!
Aug 11, 2017 10:48:27 GMT
Samantha: It's sad, yeah. We need more members to have more staff, we need more staff to keep the place active, and we need to have the place active to get more members. Sort of a vicious cycle. =P
Jul 31, 2017 16:46:13 GMT
Samantha: The problem is that the main person who likes to run contests, Riv, also has a tendency to disappear. xD And I don't have the time and the energy to run this place proper on my own.
Jul 31, 2017 16:45:38 GMT
27th: Yes, it is a lot of work. Though, I agree it could be worth the effort. As far as contests go, we've tried them here at DotE before. I don't know how well any of them worked but we it couldn't hurt to try.
Jul 30, 2017 5:53:42 GMT
R: Could try a contest?
Jul 29, 2017 4:40:04 GMT
shadow: Well. Yea. That also is a lot of work. It would be worth it though
Jul 28, 2017 4:12:51 GMT
27th: Well, recruitment would be key to that. Contacting the members we already have to try and get them to participate here would also be part of that.
Jul 26, 2017 15:52:29 GMT
shadow: I wonder what would happen if we tried to make it alive again
