Sons & Daughters
Criss, son of the Water and Fire Elementals, is an angry and conflicted young dragon with a buried heart of gold. While many dragons are most at home in the sea or the sky, Criss prefers to keep his feet firmly planted on the ground, thank you so very much. But if he could only embrace his Water heritage, he would find that he can breathe underwater just as well as he can breathe air!
"Yeah... I suppose they're only nice when there's not many..." She trailed off, scrambling for an appropriate noun, before giving up. "...around." Noel took a deep breath, running a hand through her hair before sitting down. She was here, anyway. And it felt nice not to have the weight of the pack on her back.
She felt guilt, again, for making this stranger that she still couldn't bring herself to trust help her. It was dumb. It was dumb that she fell - she could've avoided it so easily, but she didn't. She'd been dodging people most of her life, and here she ran into someone and freaked out.
She poked at her shoes, now that she was sitting, and grimaced. One of the soles was starting to seperate from the main shoe. What would she do then? Just wear socks, wrap her feet up in bandages? Noel mulled the options around in her mind.
"So, uh... you a Rider?" she asked. Of course he was. She hoped he'd read into her words; what Elemental are you with? She wondered if he'd ask her the same question.
She'd have to tell him she's not. That thought made her shift a bit, as if trying to lower herself into the ground of the Earthmote. Ha.
((wooc;; Was busy. Had depression. Mom in hospital. I think things are finally quieting down in my life? -whew- Also sorry for taking so long. I am a giant fail <<))
Yeah, the lake was nice, but Brackenhush was better. Haikal doubted though that Noel had ever been to the peaceful hollow situated among the towering rock columns. That was his favourite place to be in the Air lands. Almost no creations visited the place, and he was getting the knack of coaxing the shy Halaur out of their hiding places. They were certainly warming up to him, but he still had to be careful with moving suddenly. They disappeared faster than he could follow. It was certainly a good thing he had a bit of patience.
"Hm?" Haikal almost didn't catch Noel's question. He nodded and smiled, "Yeah, I am. Air's." The man noted then that she was messing with her shoes, which weren't in the best condition. His lips twitched into a concerned line. She would need some new shoes soon.
"I've not seen you before; are you a rider too?"
But where would she get shoes? It wasn't like there was a shop around where the riders could get them. Maybe she had an extra pair that he couldn't see. The man shrugged mentally to himself.

Noel nodded. The Rider of Air. Okay, then. She swallowed harshly when he asked about whether or not she was a Rider. She took a moment to answer.
"No, I'm not. I'm a child of two Riders, though." It was honest. She looked like she wanted to say more, but stopped herself. It wasn't worth it. He'd probably get worked up and worried and then where would she be?
Better to just let the subject drop. Don't tell them that her parents are dead, that she's been on her own for a few years now. She doesn't even really know how old she is.
Her ill-fitting clothes and the shoes that are almost completely destroyed... She has to cram her feet into them, it's no surprise they're falling apart, it's amazing they lasted as long as they did. And the clothes squish. She's had to bury some already, since they're too small for her even to rip slightly and fit in.
And despite all this the backpack never seems to get lighter, probably because she's found other places and new things that are too useful to pass up.
Noel knows the fact of things: eventually she will be unable to fit in anything she owns. Then she'll have to steal other people's clothes. The thought doesn't sit well with her. It requires going far too close to people she doesn't know.
His lips parted slightly in surprise. A child of two riders? He'd never heard of that before. Was that something that was common? He'd have to ask Astraeus later. But probably not. The man supposed it made sense that some riders would get married and have kids here as most probably never went back to their respective worlds to live a normal life--like that would be possible after living on the Island for awhile--and raise a family and whatnot. Honestly, he wouldn't want to go back to the States. It would suck being apart from Astraeus, he felt that would probably be lost without the dragon; besides America would be boring and what would he do?
"Oh." His head tilted to the side and he smiled. "That's cool. Are you just exploring on your own for a while before you meet up with your parents again?" Who's riders were they? Probably some of the lessers as most of the Elemental's riders were closer to his age than the age her parents would have to be.
Tags:Kunabee Inspiration: Notes: Haikal did not notice her hesitation xD
Her urge to tell him everything was answered by the fact he pressed, anyway. Are you going to meet up with your parents again?
When she was dead, which who knows, could be soon.
She shook her head at his questions. "My parents are dead," she said flatly. Her mother had been dead for years now, and she never really knew her father. It was easy to speak in monotone, without emotion.
Anyway, she was fine on her own. She didn't need anyone. Loneliness suited her, and she was comfortable with loneliness. They were something of old friends.
((wooc;; Noel gets an ally, Torin ! I'm so happy XD))
His smile faded. Haikal looked down to the ground. "I'm sorry. I know that doesn't help or do anything, but still..." Her voice had been flat, emotionless when she had said that her parents were dead. Was she hiding her emotions, or did it just not matter anymore to her? He wondered how long they had been dead, and how long she had been on her own. It certainly explained a lot though, like her appearance and the condition of her clothes. His eyes went back to her face and he gave her a small smile. "So you've been on your own for a while. What adventures have you had?"
~~~ Notes: it's short and bad, I'm sorry. I'll also put it in his table later.
Adventures... Is that what they called them? Adventurers implied at least something positive. She shrugged at his comment. Adventures... No, they weren't adventures. They were... Something else. Noel wasn't sure what to term them.
"I wouldn't call them adventures... just what I have to do to survive." She shrugged again. "And, you...? You have any, uh, adventures?"
"Oh." He was being rather insensitive, wasn't he? Haikal mentally berated himself. Oh well, too late to take the words back. Haikal shrugged, "I'm still pretty new here so I haven't really had any, though I have to admit, this is certainly an adventure."
Samantha: And Paradox was amazing Dae! I enjoyed writing Adutaine opposite them. =)
Samantha: I get that Blazeh, no worries. <3 The site is pretty dead, it was just me and 27th and we couldn't keep it going on our own.
Apr 23, 2018 12:00:45 GMT
DaeSiggil: Oops, I know I haven't often helped by disappearing as I did. But still thinking about this place! <3
Verridith: Hey hon, love you guys but haven't seen anything happen since 2017 ;A; hope all are well! But have to remove you from BTACD's sister sites. I'm sorry! </3 </3 </3
Samantha: Exactly! It can be tricky, back home most of my friends are just from school, university or work. xD And it was lovely. They were all so lovely, the ones I was with spent the whole time talking about history, it was fun and edumacational.
27th: Wow! You got to have dinner with the authors? Making new friends is always nice. I know that struggle as I don't socialize like my peers.
Sept 12, 2017 18:00:11 GMT
Samantha: that great at doing haha (I don't like going out to parties and stuff, which seems to be the main way people my age socialise.)
Sept 11, 2017 23:11:00 GMT
Samantha: -looks at timestamp on last reply- Eeeek, apologies for the delay! But yeah it was AMAZING. My favourite author signed my favourite book, and we even had dinner with the authors one of the nights. Plus, I made some new friends, which I don't tend to be
Sept 11, 2017 23:10:37 GMT
27th: That sounds very cool! I would have loved going to something like that.
Aug 20, 2017 21:03:22 GMT
Samantha: It just means 'science fiction and fantasy.' So it was a conference for authors of these things, and scholars who study them!
Aug 19, 2017 21:10:27 GMT
27th: Glad you had a good time in Sweden! What is SFF?
Aug 11, 2017 16:08:48 GMT
Samantha: Sorry for the disappearance. I was in Sweden for an SFF conference- it was pretty cool!
Aug 11, 2017 10:48:27 GMT
Samantha: It's sad, yeah. We need more members to have more staff, we need more staff to keep the place active, and we need to have the place active to get more members. Sort of a vicious cycle. =P
Jul 31, 2017 16:46:13 GMT
Samantha: The problem is that the main person who likes to run contests, Riv, also has a tendency to disappear. xD And I don't have the time and the energy to run this place proper on my own.
Jul 31, 2017 16:45:38 GMT
27th: Yes, it is a lot of work. Though, I agree it could be worth the effort. As far as contests go, we've tried them here at DotE before. I don't know how well any of them worked but we it couldn't hurt to try.
Jul 30, 2017 5:53:42 GMT
R: Could try a contest?
Jul 29, 2017 4:40:04 GMT
shadow: Well. Yea. That also is a lot of work. It would be worth it though
Jul 28, 2017 4:12:51 GMT
27th: Well, recruitment would be key to that. Contacting the members we already have to try and get them to participate here would also be part of that.
Jul 26, 2017 15:52:29 GMT
shadow: I wonder what would happen if we tried to make it alive again
