Take flight as a powerful Elemental dragon, one of their Creations; or even their human or elven Rider! If you need anything feel free to contact a member of staff. Besides that, make yourself at home, and enjoy your time here at DotE!
Dates formatted as: Day/Month 11/02:February Activity Check. 07/08: The island's residents don't know of it yet, but they will soon enough! Introducing The Caverns of Infinite Night. 16/05: We farewell Pine, our dedicated staff member of over five years, and wish her luck in her future endeavours. 23/01: Character spotlight added to the sidebar! (outdated until further notice)
Sons & Daughters
Criss, son of the Water and Fire Elementals, is an angry and conflicted young dragon with a buried heart of gold. While many dragons are most at home in the sea or the sky, Criss prefers to keep his feet firmly planted on the ground, thank you so very much. But if he could only embrace his Water heritage, he would find that he can breathe underwater just as well as he can breathe air!
So I'll be working on a new skin for you guys(or rather hunting for one) if you like this idea.
I've noticed Cotm and Motm stay in separate threads and don't go into the archives, this personally confuses me. I have a big pet peeve with organization and if we go through with my idea we can do much more than character of the month and member of the month guys!
1. Having all of them in the same thread
2.Having a special section in archives so it's easy to navigate if you do want to see past winners
3. The Otm's will have their own side bar section.
This is how the system usually goes that I like,
All the otm's are in the same thread when nominations come around, so at the beginning of a month or whenever nominations open ONE thread is placed with a form something like this in it.
Member of the month: Character of the month: Thread of the month: Couple of the month: STaff of the month:
And then members will reply to that thread with their nominations as such.
When nominations are over that thread is archived and THEN separate threads are made for voting of each section. Once winners are announced in the threads they can then be archived to their respective board easy to navigate!
That's my idea and it just seems less cluttered and more organized. Plus gives a little area for past winners. If we agree with idea I can start skin hunting too.
With CotMs, the previous winners are listed in the second post at present. I took that feature away with MotMs in case the same people were winning all the time and others felt inferior or whatevz, but I can return it if peeps want. Or go with Seimei's new system, either works!
I'm pretty impartial with regards to this first suggestion, though I might lean in favour of the current set up, simply because it's less work. =P But I'm totally fine with either.
1. No comment, see above. I've already notified Val about this thread, might try Pine soon- but she is quite busy at the moment, I hear.
2. That actually sounds nice, if we do go with your idea. Archive subboards are already a thing, after all. It would only make sense!
3. I think with such a small site, staff of the month and member of the month should just be a single category. xD I like the others, though. But couple could also apply to platonic pairings, because then we'd have a much broader range to choose from. I think that would be really awesome, if that was a thing. ^.^
So, yeah. Definitely in favour of adding TotM and couple of the month categories, but it would be nice if couple could be replaced with a more....broad?...word. Like I dunno...duo of the month? Pair of the month? Partnership of the month? Something like that. xD
Just going to throw my two cents in here (super late haha). So... skins are cool, like Sam said.
Uh... here's my stance on the whole otms. I was a bit partial to the ideas at first, but over time, I've become less enthusiastic about it, what with how small the site is (and also rather slow). Every month I see Sam having to encourage people in the shoutbox to make nominations, which makes me feel guilty... and then I do nothing about it (which I believe is what a lot of the lurkers on this site like myself have been doing). As for what ends up happening, Sam and 27th generally make nominations, and occasionally a new person pops in that will make a suggestion (or, more often than not, gets nominated), then disappears. I just feel like all of this is another hassle so long as the site is like this. Now, with all of that being said, I like a lot of your ideas for organization (though as long as the past winners continues to be archived, I think I would prefer keeping the threads separated, though I've heard that archiving is rather tedious and I have yet to try it out myself even IF it's in my power haha). I think that it's too much for me to ask for the whole system to be abolished, but I definitely advise against adding more categories. (i haven't been checking in too much on things as of late but if things are as they were staff of the month would rightfully be sam sam sam sam sam sam sam xD) So anyway, that's how I see things. More categories would just... I don't think it would work out too great.
Yeah, I LOVED the idea of otms. I was a bit surprised others were no as onboard with the idea, actually! xD
Maybe we'll put the whole otm thing off for now anyway, try again in a few months. And we can add new categories if and when activity has significantly improved, or when we have a larger member base. =)
Samantha: And Paradox was amazing Dae! I enjoyed writing Adutaine opposite them. =)

Samantha: I get that Blazeh, no worries. <3 The site is pretty dead, it was just me and 27th and we couldn't keep it going on our own.

DaeSiggil: Oops, I know I haven't often helped by disappearing as I did. But still thinking about this place! <3

Verridith: Hey hon, love you guys but haven't seen anything happen since 2017 ;A; hope all are well! But have to remove you from BTACD's sister sites. I'm sorry! </3 </3 </3
Apr 6, 2018 12:22:38 GMT
Samantha: Exactly! It can be tricky, back home most of my friends are just from school, university or work. xD And it was lovely. They were all so lovely, the ones I was with spent the whole time talking about history, it was fun and edumacational.
Sept 30, 2017 10:02:29 GMT
27th: Wow! You got to have dinner with the authors? Making new friends is always nice. I know that struggle as I don't socialize like my peers.
Sept 12, 2017 18:00:11 GMT
Samantha: that great at doing haha (I don't like going out to parties and stuff, which seems to be the main way people my age socialise.)
Sept 11, 2017 23:11:00 GMT
Samantha: -looks at timestamp on last reply- Eeeek, apologies for the delay! But yeah it was AMAZING. My favourite author signed my favourite book, and we even had dinner with the authors one of the nights. Plus, I made some new friends, which I don't tend to be
Sept 11, 2017 23:10:37 GMT
27th: That sounds very cool! I would have loved going to something like that.
Aug 20, 2017 21:03:22 GMT
Samantha: It just means 'science fiction and fantasy.' So it was a conference for authors of these things, and scholars who study them!
Aug 19, 2017 21:10:27 GMT
27th: Glad you had a good time in Sweden! What is SFF?
Aug 11, 2017 16:08:48 GMT
Samantha: Sorry for the disappearance. I was in Sweden for an SFF conference- it was pretty cool!
Aug 11, 2017 10:48:27 GMT
Samantha: It's sad, yeah. We need more members to have more staff, we need more staff to keep the place active, and we need to have the place active to get more members. Sort of a vicious cycle. =P
Jul 31, 2017 16:46:13 GMT
Samantha: The problem is that the main person who likes to run contests, Riv, also has a tendency to disappear. xD And I don't have the time and the energy to run this place proper on my own.
Jul 31, 2017 16:45:38 GMT
27th: Yes, it is a lot of work. Though, I agree it could be worth the effort. As far as contests go, we've tried them here at DotE before. I don't know how well any of them worked but we it couldn't hurt to try.
Jul 30, 2017 5:53:42 GMT
R: Could try a contest?
Jul 29, 2017 4:40:04 GMT
shadow: Well. Yea. That also is a lot of work. It would be worth it though
Jul 28, 2017 4:12:51 GMT
27th: Well, recruitment would be key to that. Contacting the members we already have to try and get them to participate here would also be part of that.
Jul 26, 2017 15:52:29 GMT
shadow: I wonder what would happen if we tried to make it alive again
