▪ Solu Caelo ▪ ▪ 23 Years ▪ ▪ Male ▪ ▪ Bisexual ▪ Karalis Engelis ▪ Dark & Time personality It wouldn't be too far off the mark to say Caelo is a magnet for trouble - he walks into a room, attempts to wrest the attention of all within it, and then refuses to back down when faced by someone bigger and stronger than him that takes umbrage to his usurpation. Luckily, most times his mouth works quickly enough for him to talk his way out of a beating, without losing too much face, but on the occasions when it doesn't, the gryphon shows a stubborn streak. Or maybe it's just plain old arrogance? Caelo is convinced he is Life's gift to the world - a talented instrument player, good with a blade, and witty to boot. Oh, and he looks good, too. So people should definitely pay attention to him - and Caelo craves attention. He doesn't care who from - women, men, Winds, anyone. An unkind person could say it stems from a deep-rooted lack of self-confidence, or no sense of self-worth, and they would be partially right, at least on the latter score. Due in part to the role he must play as his Aerie's Harper - a kind of records keeper and performer, and his own insecurities, Caelo rarely lets on to what he is really feeling, and will often deflect conversation onto a different subject - Never mind what the Penna Aerie is doing, look how nice these new boots look on him! He can talk up a storm, and never once divulge information about himself. At once, he wants the regard of his peers, and to be distant. It's a conflict that will need resolving, but he doesn't seem in any hurry to do so. Almost predictably, Caelo automatically takes charge in situations where someone needs to shout orders. He can shout louder than most others, too, so he has a head-start, and besides, he can get the job done, whatever it is. Sure. So save your breath, don't argue, and get to it. Honestly? Unless there was chaos in the strings section of an orchestra, he may not be of much help. But he'll stick his oar in anyway. Luckily, he is quick-witted enough that most of the time, endeavors under his 'command' don't end up in total wrecks. Mostly. For his faults, Caelo does have a sense of justice, as it were. Big people do not pick on those smaller than them, likewise, those with power help those without. It's beneath one's pride to bully those weaker, and facing them down can only do good for his reputation. He'll strut and preen after helping someone, but he does have good intentions. Just don't thank him too much - he doesn't need more of an ego boost. appearance Elven FormThe first thing you notice about Caelo is his build - much slimmer than the usual gryphon, he looks almost like a normal elf, though he still has some muscle. Thanks to his training, Caelo holds himself with the air of a man who knows his physical capabilities and isn't afraid to give you a first-hand experience in them. He has yet to learn, however, to 'simmer down' his airs when around people more skilled than he - honestly, he probably thinks there are no such people. He won't ever tower over any of his fellows, but that's fine by him. He makes up for it with sheer force of personality, his expression always one of lazy amusement. His face perfectly expresses his mood - though, being Windsingerr-trained, it could all be a facade. Who'd know? Caelo may be an instrument player, but he is still expected to gather information, and playing a crowd, whether by word or expression, is a skill he is a dab hand at. Long, straight, black hair is usually tied back in a fighter's tail, though he'll braid it when he's feeling especially fancy, or wanting to look at his best. He sports a tidy amount of facial hair, which he is very determined to never allow full fruition as a 'true' beard. His hair, while reaching past his shoulders, is not permitted to go any further. Not one bit. Said hair is neatly tucked behind the tell-tale pointed ears. In the left ear sits a stud - a blue gemstone on a pin of silver, a badge of Caelo's rank in his Aerie. Caelo's eyes are a startling pale blue, a rare colour amongst gryphons, who tend towards gold, orange, and yellows. Said eyes are usually pinpointing points and persons of interest, constantly on the move to scope out whatever is in range. Like his face, Caelo's eyes are a good indicator and mirror of his thoughts and feelings though, like his face, they are also a good way of projecting what Caelo wants people to think he's thinking. He has callouses on his hands and, rather than think them ugly, he is instead rather proud of them. They show the work he has had to put in to get to where he is now. Along with callouses, there are a few scars here and there along his arms, and a few small ones on his chest - memories of weapon training, and some fights in earnest. Gryphon Form Never going to be the biggest of gryphons, Caelo is around the size of a small horse, his fore-quarters that of an osprey, and the hind-quarters those of a snow leopard. Much slimmer than his fellows, as well as much more obvious due to his pale colouring, Caelo relies on speed and agility rather than brute strength. White feathers cover most of the head, though towards the nape of the neck, brown becomes more prevalent, taking over the white until the entire back is brown. The underside, however, remains white, merging neatly into the scaled forelegs. Unlike eagle-gryphons, Caelo has no 'flares' of feathers upon his legs. His talons, however, are nothing to sniff at - hooked, they are deadly weapons, and hard to remove from a target unless Caelo loses his grip. As mentioned before, Caelo's eyes are a striking, icy blue, giving the impression of missing nothing. The eyes have a ring of darker skin around them, making them appear even larger than they are, and somewhat more imposing and mysterious, all at once. This suits Caelo just fine as Solu's Windsinger. Caelo has shorter ears in gryphon form, though they are by no means less pointed. They also have a darker ring around their outside edge, like those of a normal snow leopard. Unlike the gryphons of the Penna Aerie, the Solu gryphons possess no feathered crests on the backs of their heads, and neither do they have any on the tips of their tails, instead having a 'true' feathered tail like a bird, with the feline tail beneath that. Since the Solu Aerie live in colder climates than other gryphons, their gryphon forms tend to reflect this, and Caelo is no exception. His feline part is that of a snow leopard, complete with a long, very fluffy tail. Fur that is almost white covers his hindquarters, marked by darker spots here and there. His hindpaws are furred between the toes, the better to keep them warm. As mentioned before, Caelo is smaller than other gryphons, and slimmer, thus it stands to reason that he is physically weaker. He is, however, much more agile, and can fly circles around other gryphons. Which he often does, in front of as many people as possible. history Born to the Solu Aerie, which made its roost in the frigid tundra, Caelo was marked from birth to be one of the Windsingers. Born with blue eyes, rather than the usual brown of an unchanged gryphon, there was no question about what life held in store for him.Taken from his parents, and raised by the Windsinger he was being trained to replace, Caelo spent his early life immersed in music and the legends of his Aerie. The Windsingers served the Aerie as entertainers, as well as keepers of history, not to mention the more mundane facets of keeping track of an Aerie of gryphons. The tundra was a harsh place, and though the Solu Aerie had lived there for generations and had adapted to it, they still treated the land with a healthy respect - and Caelo was no different. The blue-eyed gryphon spent years learning about the local herbs, animals, and the environment in general. He naturally had a voice suited to singing, and easily picked up the harp, becoming a talented player swiftly. As he grew older, he was taught how to fight - Windsingers served, too, as intermediaries with other Aeries, and it wouldn't do for them to be caught unaware. When his First Change came, and he became a full-fledged gryphon, he was officially appointed as Solu's Windsinger. With his new rank came access to the oldest tales of his Aerie - namely those involving dragons and riders. The tales all spoke of the land of the dragons being some far away place, that no gryphon had ever laid eyes upon. Plenty of Landwalkers and humans had, though, and that irked Caelo. What could a normal elf, or a human, offer a dragon that the superior gryphons couldn't? From that day, he became determined to find this land, become a Rider, and show everyone else how it was done. He didn't get any leads for a long while - the legends were only good for telling about what happened after the riders had met their dragons - until news reached him of a certain gryphon, Penna Tsiaa, who had just disappeared. She was a good scout and gatherer, who had always returned after her forays, save for this time. Weeks after she had left and not returned, the Penna Aerie had sent word out to the other Aeries. Despite their distrust of other Aeries, gryphons still stuck together against outside threats, and if foul-play on their part had caused Penna Tsiaa harm, then there would be hell to pay. Caelo, being the holder of Solu's knowledge and lore, was asked to investigate the area where Penna Tsiaa had vanished - Penna knew the general location, because Tsiaa had sent word of her route just days before. Caelo didn't have enough magic to throw fireballs and call lightning, but he had enough to smell out other people's spells, and the closer he got to the place where Penna Tsiaa was last seen. the more the smell of magic increased. Telling the Solu gryphon that had accompanied him to send word of what they had found back to both Solu and Penna, Caelo himself stayed behind, a plan forming in his mind. While he couldn't manage a working like this himself, he could ride the tailwind, as it were, and follow Penna Tsiaa. Caelo didn't believe a Landwalker had done this - the field of magic was too high up for that to be true, and a gryphon wouldn't use a spell to dispose of a rival. No, this had to be how one reached the dragon-lands, and he intended to go there for himself. Without a second thought, he flew into the patch of magic. There was a moment of disorientation, before he found himself aloft over unfamiliar terrain. He arrowed down into a landing, finding that, yes, this land was not the one he had been in scant minutes ago. The dizziness soon faded, washed away by a thrilling sense of excitement - he had done it! The triumph was marred only by the thought that Penna Tsiaa had done it before him, but, he knew, he would find a far superior dragon to Tsiaa's, and accomplish much greater things. After all, he was Solu Caelo. How could he not? Weapons Caelo carries a sword, which he uses only in elven form - otherwise, he relies on speed and his talons to fight. The blade is light, and designed to be wielded in one hand. There isn't much noteworthy about the weapon - it is plain and serviceable, much to Caelo's chagrin. Other Caelo also carries a harp with him, in a special sling that he can use in both forms. A prized possession, it is doubtless he will let anyone else touch it. The harp is richly decorated, obviously old, and just as obviously well cared for.Osprey Reference Snow Leopard Reference played by: Sery ▪ face claim: Perttu Kivilaakso |
