Sons & Daughters
Criss, son of the Water and Fire Elementals, is an angry and conflicted young dragon with a buried heart of gold. While many dragons are most at home in the sea or the sky, Criss prefers to keep his feet firmly planted on the ground, thank you so very much. But if he could only embrace his Water heritage, he would find that he can breathe underwater just as well as he can breathe air!
Imp smiled as he realized that Raven wasn't as...uncomprehending as he had first believed. It also interested him to know a little more about her power. As a Lesser Elemental, he knew that she had to have something and it was nice to know what that was. How to take advantage of that? Since Raven was still going on, Imp pushed those thoughts to the back of his mind, they would have to wait.
Imp nodded his head, "Yes, Raven, that is exactly right. No, the shadows don't keep me company. I admit, they are rather useful to me."
No need to tell the little dragoness about his own power. He would never use it on her, at least while she was still so young and defenseless.
the daughter of death and darkness let out a pleased chirp, she was glad to have figured out the relation between the two of them. though it still made the dragoness wonder how exactly her mother was able to make another dragon without laying an egg. did she simply think of the beast and will it into existence? how exciting that would be, to just think of something and have it come to life. raven was quite interested in the whole creation of a creation. she hoped that one day she too might create a dragon of her own.
another curious and confused quirk of the head ensued as raven listened to the small dragon. did he truly have no one? even she relied on the black birds for social interactions. surely one could not simply be by themselves for eternity and still be sane? "whoo do yoou play with than?" the hatchling stared at imp with her faint orbs, "do yoou play with shadows?" raven excited herself with the thought. it could be quite fun having two dragons who could manipulate the darkness.
as raven waited for her company to response, faint tremors could be felt underneath her paws. they increased in intensity within seconds. the bird dragon's attention quickly shot away from the creation in front of her, slender neck whipping about as she tried to find what caused the earth to tremble. frightened squawks erupted from her mouth and feathers spiked out in fear. the hatching had no idea what was going on. small cracks began to rip through the ground around the two dragons, one splitting the earth in between them. raven jumped back and hissed at the now broken land, rumbles began low and slowly raised in volume. the hatchling had no idea what was happening or what to do, her emotionless eyes bore into the small dragons', complete terror consumed her body, which was frozen in fear. words escaped her as thunderous roars came forth from the drop. swelling waves, crashing against the jagged cliff, trying to eat away at it's surface. trees began to quake, their roots up heaving, their bodies ready to fall at any moment.
BIC: Imp was about to respond to yet more of Raven's questions (though, truly, he didn't mind) when he felt the ground begin to shake. He rose quickly to his feet and raised one foot and then another. What was making the ground move so? In all his years of existence (not that they were many) he had never experienced anything of the kind and he certainly didn't have a word for the phenomenon. It disturbed him deeply as the ground continued convulsing in ever increasing rage.
The Death creation could hear and smell Raven's fright but he was more concerned with himself at the moment to think about anyone else. He tried to stay on his feet and for the first time in his life he wished to be able to fly but his limp wings still hung uselessly at his sides. There would be no help there. He wondered what was happening to the earth and why and when would it end? Imp scrambled to stay upright but it was almost impossible.
That's when the trees began to fall. Imp did his best to get out of the way but that's when he got caught in the tangled branches of one. His good-for-nothing wings snared him easily and he struggled madly to free himself. More trees fell and one fell along the trunk of the tree he was in, making his situation that much worse. By this time, he had lost all knowledge of Raven and anything and everything else except that he believed that he was going to die...
Imp had lost control of the situation and he had no way of knowing how to rectify it. He hated when he lost control; it was one of the reasons that he told lies, not merely to amuse himself but to keep control of a situation with wit rather than size where his fellow dragons completely overwhelmed him. Then...the earth grew still. The silence was ominous. Imp was still stuck fast.
As the earth slowed, so did Imp's panic. He couldn't move. He wriggled, trying to scrabble free but that seemed to be impossible. That's when he finally remembered Raven. Thank Eien for having a useful hatchling!
"Raven? Raven! Where are you," Imp called, his hiss of a voice echoing eerily through the now silent Death territory.
as the twisted trees began to fall, raven's panic increased, her body jumped with every thud of crashed limbs and bodies. she hopped around, frantically trying to find a place to hide, but she was too big to wiggle into any crevices. instead the hatchling attempted to make herself as small as she could, scrunching her slender neck into her body, black feathers jutting all around her narrow face. it was behind a stump that she crouched down and waited for the earth to quell it's rage, her wide eyes shut tightly in fear.
a short time pasted before the tremors began to slow, the earth settling. silence replaced the thunderous booms, so eerie that it frighten even the daughter of death and darkness. would the earth turn back into a ravenous monster? or had she finally went back to sleep? raven was unsure and had no interest in finding out. she sat there, behind the broken tree, not wanting to move a muscle. so afraid she was, that if she did move, it would cause mother nature to began tearing herself apart again. only the shouts of a familiar voice brought the dragoness out of her fear.
raven slowly and unwillingly opened one of her faint blue eyes. it glanced about quickly, afraid to see what the earth would do next, but the shouts of her company caused her to enact a proper survey of the area. suddenly, her tall neck shot up from her crouched frame. "Immmp!" She cried, fright coursed through her weak voice. Cautiously, the young dragon crept around the forest, searching for the little creation.
soon she stumbled upon a pile of trees and underneath was the creature that had called out to her. the elemental daughter spoke no words, just squawked for joy at the discovery of her new friend. she was terrified that he had been taken by the earth's rage. it settled her fear some to know that he was alive. "are yoou ok?" raven finally asked as she eyed the creation's snagged wings.
Imp was very relieved to see Raven, alive and well and able to help him free. Then, he sighed mentally in frustration.
"What does it look like, Raven? I'm not hurt, just stuck. Help me free," Imp said, struggling to show the little hatchling that he couldn't move to get out of the tree branches.
The Death creation figured that his wings would have some major damage. If he wanted to repair them he would need to find a very large and very healthy dragon to steal some energy from. Raven did not fit that bill but finding other dragons was his specialty. Earthquake over, once he was free, the intelligent Imp was already thinking of what he would do next. But first...
"Don't worry about hurting me, Raven. Just get me free and then I - I mean - we will travel together. Would you like that?"
Imp had no idea what to do with a hatchling, especially traveling with one but he figured that if he got Raven's cooperation then that would be much better for him.
raven listened to the little creation intently, her narrow face tilted slightly. she began to analyze the fallen trees and looked for the best approach to remove them from her company's body, not wanting to cause more damage to him. even if he did not care about being hurt, she did. it would make the dragoness feel terrible if she caused him more pain, his wings already seemed to be in rough shape.
the hatchling carefully began snapping at the branches that encased the death creation, making sure not to accidentally slice into the creature. it only took raven a few minutes to break through all of the limbs and free the trapped dragon. she hopped around excitingly at her accomplishment, feathers and fluff bouncing about. "immp! i'm glad you're ook!" the young dragon cried out, still a little shaken by what had just happened and was more than happy to rejoice about her company's saftey.
it took a few moments for the elemental daughter to realize what imp had proposed. "travel? where shall we goo?" raven looked around at the the shade, trees were uprooted, torn in half and laid upon the earth, shattered. some pieces of land had been upheaved and jutted out dangerously. the sight did not do well in making the young dragon feel better about the disaster. "is it safe...?" she murmured, her tall neck scrunched down to the little creation's height. the reality of what happened still not entirely clear to the hatchling, which caused her fear to fester once more.
BIC: Imp extricated himself from the confining branches and shook himself lightly, limp wings flapping uselessly. Yes, his wings were not in good shape. In order to get them back in shape he needed to leave. Not many opportunities for him to use his power in the Shade. Now, what to do about Raven?
The Death creation knew nothing about Eien's parenting. Did she want Raven to stay out? Did she even care about her daughter? I suppose I'll just find out. Besides lying and finding dragons, Imp's third specialty was causing trouble.
The grey creation fixed his bulbous red eyes on the hatchling. He had guessed from the first that Raven was a product of Eien and Icarus, the Dark Elemental. So, that's where I'll take her...Not only to give Raven over to someone who actually cared but also to find other dragons that Imp could filch energy from. A perfect plan, if he did say so himself.
"OK, Raven. I'm taking you to see your daddy, would you like that?" Imp asked in as oily a voice as he could make with the rasp that he usually procured.
OOC: OK, if you'd like to finish this role play off with your next post, feel free.
the elemental daughter waited patiently for the death creation to wiggle out of the crushed branches. once free, raven gave a victories squawk, her little wings flapping about. however, after a few seconds faint blue orbs were fixed onto his limp wings, torn and tattered. the dragoness' success soon meant nothing to her. she lowered her head and a soft screech broke through her bladed mouth. powerful hind legs rose and fell every so often, one at a time, still nervous about the disaster. raven wished that there was some way to help the little dragon, but she had no life giving powers, being the daughter of death and all. the thought of not being helpful saddened the hatchling, however, her mood turned around in a split second as soon as imp mentioned her father. "yoou know where he is?" she questioned curiously with a tilt of her head, a little doubtful of the creature. the dragoness had not seen icarus in quite some time, only faint images of him remained in her mind. how would this little creature know of him or his location? did every dragon know about one another, except raven?
before the death creation had a chance to answer, the dragoness decided that she didn't care whether or not he knew of her father's whereabouts. the hatchling did not wish to remain in the shade any longer. the thoughts of earth upheaving and trees crushing her did not sit well in her mind. "i will goo." she breathed quietly, that eerrie tone returning. with that the dragoness began waddling after the little grey scale dragon, unsure of where they were off to. though she was scared to leave the only lands that she knew of, raven felt the need to expand on her knowledge of the world. apparently, after meeting the tiny death creation, she knew nothing. all the hatchling knew of were ravens and crows, of twisted limbs and darkness. the elemental daughter needed to know more of the place she lived in and that meant leaving everything she knew of behind. even though she was young, her youth only fueled her curiosity more. imp was in for quite a ride with this little princess of death and darkness.

Verridith: Hey hon, love you guys but haven't seen anything happen since 2017 ;A; hope all are well! But have to remove you from BTACD's sister sites. I'm sorry! </3 </3 </3
Apr 6, 2018 12:22:38 GMT
Samantha: Exactly! It can be tricky, back home most of my friends are just from school, university or work. xD And it was lovely. They were all so lovely, the ones I was with spent the whole time talking about history, it was fun and edumacational.
Sept 30, 2017 10:02:29 GMT
27th: Wow! You got to have dinner with the authors? Making new friends is always nice. I know that struggle as I don't socialize like my peers.
Sept 12, 2017 18:00:11 GMT
Samantha: that great at doing haha (I don't like going out to parties and stuff, which seems to be the main way people my age socialise.)
Sept 11, 2017 23:11:00 GMT
Samantha: -looks at timestamp on last reply- Eeeek, apologies for the delay! But yeah it was AMAZING. My favourite author signed my favourite book, and we even had dinner with the authors one of the nights. Plus, I made some new friends, which I don't tend to be
Sept 11, 2017 23:10:37 GMT
27th: That sounds very cool! I would have loved going to something like that.
Aug 20, 2017 21:03:22 GMT
Samantha: It just means 'science fiction and fantasy.' So it was a conference for authors of these things, and scholars who study them!
Aug 19, 2017 21:10:27 GMT
27th: Glad you had a good time in Sweden! What is SFF?
Aug 11, 2017 16:08:48 GMT
Samantha: Sorry for the disappearance. I was in Sweden for an SFF conference- it was pretty cool!
Aug 11, 2017 10:48:27 GMT
Samantha: It's sad, yeah. We need more members to have more staff, we need more staff to keep the place active, and we need to have the place active to get more members. Sort of a vicious cycle. =P
Jul 31, 2017 16:46:13 GMT
Samantha: The problem is that the main person who likes to run contests, Riv, also has a tendency to disappear. xD And I don't have the time and the energy to run this place proper on my own.
Jul 31, 2017 16:45:38 GMT
27th: Yes, it is a lot of work. Though, I agree it could be worth the effort. As far as contests go, we've tried them here at DotE before. I don't know how well any of them worked but we it couldn't hurt to try.
Jul 30, 2017 5:53:42 GMT
R: Could try a contest?
Jul 29, 2017 4:40:04 GMT
shadow: Well. Yea. That also is a lot of work. It would be worth it though
Jul 28, 2017 4:12:51 GMT
27th: Well, recruitment would be key to that. Contacting the members we already have to try and get them to participate here would also be part of that.
Jul 26, 2017 15:52:29 GMT
shadow: I wonder what would happen if we tried to make it alive again
