Aiden's gaze remained glued to the Time Elemental, perfectly content to ignore the charismatic girl that stood before him. Adutaine's own expression was impossible to decipher for him, and now that he was reflecting on it, the impassive look on her face had been mostly unaltered throughout the duration of their entire trip. Perhaps he was looking for the wrong cues and she had been displaying a variety of emotions plainly. He couldn't be expected to recognize the expressions of a species that he hadn't believed existed until recently. Given time, he would find out one way or another.
The half-elf had just about given up on gauging a reaction from Adutaine, turning his head if only to whip it back with widened eyes, when she spoke up, revealing the girl's identity. So she was a dragon, too, like Adutaine? His cheeks, already flushed from the heat of the desert, burned in shame, too distracted to even care about what he was almost certain was the first sarcastic comment from the Time Elemental.
He blinked, the pain in his stinging eye forgotten for the time being, which was perhaps for the better. Without wasting another moment, the boy bent forward in a bow toward Ysera, head dipping so his gaze fell to the sand below. "Please forgive me, I hadn't realized who you were," Aiden explained, his words somewhat rushed. "I shouldn't have been so rude."
For the time being, Aiden refused to straighten himself from that position. After all, when Ysera announced that she would be following them, it was absolutely essential for him to hide to look of dismay that had crossed his face, blank strands of hair having just enough to conceal most of this. While he knew the Earth Elemental was a potent force to be reckoned with, in her own way, she certainly lacked the regal air that Adutaine maintained around her person. He didn't trust that he could keep his patience with her, particularly when she had been so blunt to refer to him as a 'lesser creature'.
The boy's jaw tightened, the action visible from a throbbing indention in his cheek, before he was able to slacken it again. A pleasant smile had finally made it's way back to Aiden's face, though it was tainted with a somewhat bitter edge to it. The comment had rubbed him the wrong way, in addition to the fact that he had only been addressed by the Elemental when she had attempted to pick on him. Regardless, Aiden finally lifted himself from his bow. "With all due respect, I did not take the dragons here to be mindless savages. Correct me if I am wrong."
Had he known the scathing nature of his remark ahead of time, Aiden would have surely held his tongue. However, it was too late to take anything back, and instead he was determined to maintain eye contact with the Earth Elemental. It might seem weak if he backed down after saying something like that, and he could only hope that Adutaine would somehow overlook his brash attitude.
