Sons & Daughters
Criss, son of the Water and Fire Elementals, is an angry and conflicted young dragon with a buried heart of gold. While many dragons are most at home in the sea or the sky, Criss prefers to keep his feet firmly planted on the ground, thank you so very much. But if he could only embrace his Water heritage, he would find that he can breathe underwater just as well as he can breathe air!
Fazoola, Elemental of Life, always knew what was going on in her territory. She knew who was where and whether they left Snake's Mouth or stayed safely within it's borders. She could do this, not because she was an all powerful Elemental, but because of the Eye. It was the large pool of water at the heart of the forest where the Willow lived on the northwestern bank. For the Life Elemental, it revealed her creations and children, no matter where they were on the Isle. Most believed that the name referred to the forest itself, as it was the central area in the territory. Only Fazoola knew the real meaning.
The large Elemental had been sheltering within the Willow's far-sweeping branches, studying the Eye quietly as she checked on her creations and children. Earlier, she had noted Farley's journey to Perilous Peak. While she did not approve of dragons taking part in such a dangerous pastime, she was not the type to interfere. Wanting to see if he had survived his visit, she returned to the Eye to find her creation traveling home safely...with an Ice creation! Horrified, she quickly looked away from the Eye, her thoughts in a whirl as she wondered what this could possibly mean.
Like all of the other Elementals, Fazoola had heard of Viamor's plotting. It concerned her most of all because she shared a direct border with the vicious Elemental. Knowing she could not allow even this stranger-soft as he looked-into her territory so freely, she knew what she had to do. She would go to meet Farley at the edge of the Western Fangs. If she left now, she would just make it. With a whoosh, the large dragon took flight, the Willow swaying in the wash of wind from her wings.
It took mere moments for her to cross the western plains and come to the edge of the Fangs. She had seen in the Eye that Farley was still following the Key, even if he weren't flying directly in it any longer. Fazoola scanned the sky for his distinctive form. After a few anxious moments of searching, hoping she hadn't missed him, she saw him come into view. He was flying slowly, a bit cumbersome. It was a long hard flight for the most experienced of dragons. Being young, she imagined her poor creation's fatigue.
Farley perked up a bit as he saw his Elemental below him, resting quietly in the open. He was surprised to see her, even as his flight evened out. He veered towards her, glancing back to make certain Haranling was still behind him. They had had to take it slow but the Ice creation had kept up and they had made it! He landed none too gently, stumbling a bit as his legs barely managed to hold him up. The Life creation stood before his Elemental as she lowered her head in order to speak with him more comfortably.
"Greetings, Fazoola! I have come all the way from the far side of the Fangs to bring you this Ice creation. His name is Haranling and he told me he wishes to speak with you!" Farley said importantly, puffing his chest out a bit at a job well done.
Fazoola was surprised at hearing that a creation not of her own Element wished to speak with her. As far as she knew, Viamor had no Ambassador. Though, she supposed that didn't stop the Ice Elemental from sending a message, regardless. She was both curious and dreading what this Haranling possibly had to say.
"You have done well, Farley. You may leave us alone now. I will see to our guest," Fazoola said, knowing her creation had to recover from his journey.
Farley dipped his head in farewell to his Elemental and flicked his tail tip lightly against Haranling's shoulder before padding slowly away over the plains. She watched him for a while, knowing there was no more danger to be found within her territory to concern her creation. Once he was far enough away, she turned her attention once more to the Ice creation. Her long, thick tail was curved in an arc, effectively sealing off any retreat that Haranling might make. For her creations, it was a comforting circle to be in. For anyone facing her in her rare moments of anger, it was almost always a death trap.
"Welcome, Haranling of Ice, to Snake's Mouth. If my Fangs were not enough to deter you from meeting with me, your message must be important indeed," Fazoola said, amber eyes glowing brightly down at the Ice creation, though whether in welcome or anger all depended on his next words.
"Thank-you, Farley!" Haranling called, and tensed as Fazoola's tail wrapped around him. He couldn't escape. Couldn't move- well, he could try jumping over her tail, but she was an Elemental and...oh stars what was I thinking?!
"Well met, Fazoola," he managed, forcing himself to stand strong before that piercing gaze.
How do I say this? I've come this far, I can't back down, but...what do I say?
"I have bad news from Ice," Haranling began, and winced inwardly, reminding himself to speak more formally. He was in the presence of an unknown Elemental, after all! "Viamor talks of challenging others, he spoke of freezing your realm, and-"
He tilted his head. "Well, I couldn't stand by and let him attack you. Even- no matter what he'll do to me if I don't."
Fazoola narrowed her eyes intently as Haranling spoke of bad news. While he seemed a little nervous, he did not appear aggressive in manner. As he spoke of attack, she bristled, though she had known of this already. It was his last words that truly floored her. It was the last thing she had expected him to say.
"A compassionate Ice creation? I didn't know it was possible," Fazoola murmured, more to herself than Haranling. Then, she refocused on the small fluffy dragon sitting before her. "Yes, I have already received reports from various sources that have all said the same thing. Your Elemental isn't making his schemes in secret."
Trusting as she liked to be, she did not trust Haranling. She did not put it past Viamor to send in a creation as a false friend. So, she did not speak of how she had already been preparing her creations for patrolling and battling. Much as Fazoola hated to see the peace of her land shattered, they would not be caught unawares when Viamor's attack came. All they did not know was when.
Haranling couldn't help but be disappointed. So he'd endangered himself for nothing? What now? What if Viamor found out? Or Icicle and Ivory? Or Tabae? Or any other of a great number of individuals who might not take kindly to his actions?
"Ah. That's- that's okay then," he said, still wondering what her first murmured words had been. "I suppose that's very like him, he doesn't care what others think, he thinks that he's strong enough to take you all on..."
He hesitated, noting that her tail was still curled around him.
"So I suppose...I'll go home now?"
He wasn't sure that the Vale would feel like home again for quite some time. But Haranling had always been good at pretending, and sometimes that was enough.
BIC: Fazoola read Haranling's disappointment easily. Some dragons were more transparent than others and, while he was trying to hide it, she understood what he must be feeling in this moment. She started to question her earlier theory of his not being trustworthy. Perhaps he really was not working as Viamor's agent after all. Even so, she chose her next words with care. She did not want to offend the fluffy creation but she too hoped that this little trip of his had not been in vain.
"Yes, I suppose you should go home to Ice. Ordinarily, any creation is allowed to stay but all of my own are on high alert against your Element. Though I know that your Elemental is planning an attack on my territory, do you happen to know when it will be?" Fazoola studied the small dragon carefully, not wanting to miss any hint that he may try to lie to her.
OOC: I like the title you created for this role play.
bic: Haranling did his best to meet her gaze. This was some kind of test, and he was determined to pass.
"Not exactly, I'm afraid. But it seemed like he's restless, and he wants to do something like that soon. I'm glad your Creations are on alert. Hopefully that will be enough to deter him."
But Haranling was not Created yesterday. He knew his Creator, and he knew he wouldn't back down just because he encountered some unexpected resistance. He would, rather, see it as a challenge to rise to and conquer.
Fazoola relaxed, as she realized that Haranling was telling her the truth. Then, something else occurred to her. It wasn't something that the Life Elemental felt that she did. She was not cunning, nor devious in personality and while she had been driven by anger before in her life, she had always done her best to stay neutral in times of trouble. Yet, now was different. Viamor was singling her out. She could not just stand idly by and do nothing while he tried to take what was rightfully hers. So, she would do everything in her power to thwart his efforts.
"Haranling, is there a way for you to find out what your Elemental's next move will be?" Fazoola asked. She preferred to have the upper wind current if she could help it.
Haranling tensed. He didn't much like the idea of playing a spy, and yet...his Creator had horrible plans, two of Haran's closest friends seemed to support those plans, and what was even the point of helping people in the Vale if he didn't help out now?
"I can try," Haranling said. "If I go too near his tower he'll get suspicious- I don't do that very often. But I can look for him in the other places he likes to visit, and his Rider seems more talkative, I can maybe get something out of him."
Fazoola was surprised that the Ice creation had agreed to spy on his own Elemental so readily but she was also relieved.
Reluctantly, the Life Elemental shook her head. "Do not go to any unnecessary trouble. After all, you won't be use to anyone if you are dead. If you can manage to get something, any bit of news may be helpful to our efforts here. Are you familiar with Perilous Peak?"
Samantha: And Paradox was amazing Dae! I enjoyed writing Adutaine opposite them. =)

Samantha: I get that Blazeh, no worries. <3 The site is pretty dead, it was just me and 27th and we couldn't keep it going on our own.
Apr 23, 2018 12:00:45 GMT
DaeSiggil: Oops, I know I haven't often helped by disappearing as I did. But still thinking about this place! <3

Verridith: Hey hon, love you guys but haven't seen anything happen since 2017 ;A; hope all are well! But have to remove you from BTACD's sister sites. I'm sorry! </3 </3 </3
Apr 6, 2018 12:22:38 GMT
Samantha: Exactly! It can be tricky, back home most of my friends are just from school, university or work. xD And it was lovely. They were all so lovely, the ones I was with spent the whole time talking about history, it was fun and edumacational.
Sept 30, 2017 10:02:29 GMT
27th: Wow! You got to have dinner with the authors? Making new friends is always nice. I know that struggle as I don't socialize like my peers.
Sept 12, 2017 18:00:11 GMT
Samantha: that great at doing haha (I don't like going out to parties and stuff, which seems to be the main way people my age socialise.)
Sept 11, 2017 23:11:00 GMT
Samantha: -looks at timestamp on last reply- Eeeek, apologies for the delay! But yeah it was AMAZING. My favourite author signed my favourite book, and we even had dinner with the authors one of the nights. Plus, I made some new friends, which I don't tend to be
Sept 11, 2017 23:10:37 GMT
27th: That sounds very cool! I would have loved going to something like that.
Aug 20, 2017 21:03:22 GMT
Samantha: It just means 'science fiction and fantasy.' So it was a conference for authors of these things, and scholars who study them!
Aug 19, 2017 21:10:27 GMT
27th: Glad you had a good time in Sweden! What is SFF?
Aug 11, 2017 16:08:48 GMT
Samantha: Sorry for the disappearance. I was in Sweden for an SFF conference- it was pretty cool!
Aug 11, 2017 10:48:27 GMT
Samantha: It's sad, yeah. We need more members to have more staff, we need more staff to keep the place active, and we need to have the place active to get more members. Sort of a vicious cycle. =P
Jul 31, 2017 16:46:13 GMT
Samantha: The problem is that the main person who likes to run contests, Riv, also has a tendency to disappear. xD And I don't have the time and the energy to run this place proper on my own.
Jul 31, 2017 16:45:38 GMT
27th: Yes, it is a lot of work. Though, I agree it could be worth the effort. As far as contests go, we've tried them here at DotE before. I don't know how well any of them worked but we it couldn't hurt to try.
Jul 30, 2017 5:53:42 GMT
R: Could try a contest?
Jul 29, 2017 4:40:04 GMT
shadow: Well. Yea. That also is a lot of work. It would be worth it though
Jul 28, 2017 4:12:51 GMT
27th: Well, recruitment would be key to that. Contacting the members we already have to try and get them to participate here would also be part of that.
Jul 26, 2017 15:52:29 GMT
shadow: I wonder what would happen if we tried to make it alive again
