Sons & Daughters
Criss, son of the Water and Fire Elementals, is an angry and conflicted young dragon with a buried heart of gold. While many dragons are most at home in the sea or the sky, Criss prefers to keep his feet firmly planted on the ground, thank you so very much. But if he could only embrace his Water heritage, he would find that he can breathe underwater just as well as he can breathe air!
"And what precisely are you going to tell her?" Haranling muttered to himself, blowing frost out of his eyes as he squinted at the mountains looming overhead. "That Viamor threatened her? Do you know how silly that sounds, Haranling? She's an Elemental, why would she care?"
He huffed and looked around, more anxious than he'd like to admit. He'd heard the Fang Mountains were perilous, but he'd never expected them to be anything like this. Here now, sheltered under a rocky outcrop, he was alright. But before as he'd climbed, the winds had almost knocked him- him, Haranling, the Ice Prince!- off the mountainside. And he wasn't anywhere near the top...
Farley was on his way back from Perilous Peak. He had visited after the prompting of his friends. An adventurous young dragon, he had decided to head into the western Fangs to see this place for himself. He had made it to the summit but had not tried to fly down the Flow. It seemed just a little too dangerous for his taste. Thankfully, no one had pressed him and he had still enjoyed himself, joking and laughing with the other dragons that frequented the place.
The brown, green and white dragon had even seen the Tongue! It had been roughly the same size as he was and he wasn't sure what to make of this great white...thing that had lumbered up to the group he had been with. No one paid it any mind but Farley had been fascinated. It suddenly seemed to fix him in it's beady black gaze and he gave a squeak of alarm as it wrapped him in it's warm, soft tongue. He froze, not wanting to make a wrong move. The hug was not entirely unpleasant and once he relaxed in the Tongue's embrace, it released him.
All in all, his trip was not one he would forget. Now he was on his way back home to the much milder plains and forest found in the heart of Life. He was flying along easily in the Key, his narrow feathered wings well-suited to the often tight spaces a dragon had to fly through in the Fangs. This was when he noticed a whiteness against one stark mountain. It wasn't snow and he let his green eyes hone in on the other creature.
It was a dragon!
Just by looking at him, Farley could tell the stranger was from Ice. Fazoola had warned her creations that they needed to watch their western border. It had completely slipped his mind when he took his trip into the Fangs, believing that they would be enough to protect them from their aggressive neighbor. However, Fazoola's words came back now and he felt a glimmer of unease for a moment. However, this particular Ice creation looked far from dangerous
Making up his mind, Farley approached the stranger, flapping his wings in the fierce gusts surrounding the ledge the other dragon had taken refuge on. It wasn't easy for even a moderately sized dragon to hover like this but, as a Life creation, he wasn't just going to turn away from someone who needed help. It didn't matter whether this Ice creation was a potential enemy.
"You're an Ice creation, aren't you? What brings you all the way out here?" Farley asked, wondering what could possibly possess this non-Life creation to make such a harrowing journey.
Haranling couldn't be entirely sure of the newcomer's origin but, given their current location, it seemed a safe assumption that he was of Life.
"Me?" he asked, drawing himself up as close to his full height as possible, given the rock overhead. "Why, I'm off to visit the mighty Fazoola, of course! I haven't been outside Ice much, and I haven't met any other Elementals, but I'm very keen to."
He blinked innocently and grinned. There wasn't a lot of room for his usual theatrics here, but an attitude of innocent curiosity should serve him well. He didn't want the dragon to know why he was really here- what if it got back to Viamor? His Creator was not known for being merciful.
"You, a mere creation, wish to meet a strange Elemental? What makes you think she has the time or the interest to meet you?" Farley asked, clearly skeptical of this reason.
Though, the Life creation knew full well Fazoola would be more than willing to meet a strange creation. He also knew that Fazoola would be especially keen to meet this Ice creation. Farley made up his mind that he would help this dragon reach his Elemental. This way, an Ice creation wouldn't be running loose and unsupervised in Life and Farley was curious. Besides, this stranger seemed nice enough.
Perhaps he would blab all about what Viamor was up to which would make for great intel to share with Fazoola!
"Well, when you put it like that..." Haranling shrugged. "Nonetheless, I want to try and meet her. Honestly, nearly 200 years old and I still haven't met any Elementals besides my own!"
He might have lied about his age just a little, but who was going to know? He continued to smile at Farley, hoping that the unfamiliar Creation would relent- it was going to be a lot harder to find his way past these mountains on his own.
"Alright, if you're intent to continue and you are clearly in need of help, I can take you to meet my Elemental. My name is Farley," Farley said, flapping his wings hard to maintain this hover; they were beginning to tire with all of this extra work which wasn't good in the fierce winds of the Fangs.
The Life creation had never flown outside of the Key before. He still knew his way through the formidable mountain range, however. He was already calculating they path they would have to take in order to make it through in one piece. Things would just be a bit more complicated. He felt they would just make it.
"Aww, would you really do that?" Haranling brightened, to the point that he was concerned he might be overdoing it a little. "Thank-you so much! Um, just give me a moment..."
He struggled up onto the top of this outcrop, digging his claws in, eyes narrowed against the cold. When he finally made it, he turned and shouted to Farley, leaning forward a little to try and stop the wind from snatching his voice as soon as he spoke.
Farley didn't understand that at all. This dragon wasn't even of Air. Was it really possible for him to fly without wings? Or did he mean something else by that comment? Deciding that it was too risky to remain where they were with the winds hammering fiercely at them as they spoke, the Life creation flapped his wings hard, backing away from the ledge where the other creation had found refuge.
"Its going to be tough but try to stick as close to me as you can. By the way, what is your name?" Farley asked, trying to face the other dragon as he spoke and not let the wind cut through his words.
Farley did not agree about his name sounding poetic but decided now was not the time to begin such a debate. The brown, green and white dragon did a neat backflip midair, allowing Haranling space to maneuver. The spaces between mountains here in the Fangs were quite narrow. It made traveling through them as every other dragon besides those of Life had to very difficult. Farley narrowed his eyes against the confluence of winds. Every wing flap for him would be a fight. Never before had he been more thankful for his Element.
The Life creation knew, at least, the direction he was heading. The safety of the plains was about a two hour flight away, if nothing untoward happened to them. He began cut through the air, struggling as the wind pushed against him from every direction. He hoped that Haranling was managing to make some headway and wondered if it would be any easier for him because he couldn't fly.
The wind cut through Haranling's words and Farley only heard bits and pieces of it. "Where-your-Creator?" Thankfully, it was enough for the Life creation to understand. It was just, he didn't have a straight answer to give his fellow creation. He had no idea where Fazoola would be and he only hoped that it wouldn't take too long to find her. Of course, he couldn't remain silent and ignore Haranling's question, as if he hadn't heard. He deserved an answer.
"I don't know where to find her. I just know of the place she is most likely to be. She'll be found in the Eye, in the heart of Snake's Mouth," Farley said, unaware that this was not really an answer that a non-Life creation could understand.
"Huh," Haranling was sure he'd misheard Farley- how could something be found in the heart of a mouth? Still, he nodded and played along- doing his best to keep up a cheerful appearance, despite the anxiety he felt and the fear of what Viamor would do if he discovered what he was up to...
Samantha: And Paradox was amazing Dae! I enjoyed writing Adutaine opposite them. =)

Samantha: I get that Blazeh, no worries. <3 The site is pretty dead, it was just me and 27th and we couldn't keep it going on our own.
Apr 23, 2018 12:00:45 GMT
DaeSiggil: Oops, I know I haven't often helped by disappearing as I did. But still thinking about this place! <3

Verridith: Hey hon, love you guys but haven't seen anything happen since 2017 ;A; hope all are well! But have to remove you from BTACD's sister sites. I'm sorry! </3 </3 </3

Samantha: Exactly! It can be tricky, back home most of my friends are just from school, university or work. xD And it was lovely. They were all so lovely, the ones I was with spent the whole time talking about history, it was fun and edumacational.

27th: Wow! You got to have dinner with the authors? Making new friends is always nice. I know that struggle as I don't socialize like my peers.
Sept 12, 2017 18:00:11 GMT
Samantha: that great at doing haha (I don't like going out to parties and stuff, which seems to be the main way people my age socialise.)
Sept 11, 2017 23:11:00 GMT
Samantha: -looks at timestamp on last reply- Eeeek, apologies for the delay! But yeah it was AMAZING. My favourite author signed my favourite book, and we even had dinner with the authors one of the nights. Plus, I made some new friends, which I don't tend to be
Sept 11, 2017 23:10:37 GMT
27th: That sounds very cool! I would have loved going to something like that.
Aug 20, 2017 21:03:22 GMT
Samantha: It just means 'science fiction and fantasy.' So it was a conference for authors of these things, and scholars who study them!
Aug 19, 2017 21:10:27 GMT
27th: Glad you had a good time in Sweden! What is SFF?
Aug 11, 2017 16:08:48 GMT
Samantha: Sorry for the disappearance. I was in Sweden for an SFF conference- it was pretty cool!
Aug 11, 2017 10:48:27 GMT
Samantha: It's sad, yeah. We need more members to have more staff, we need more staff to keep the place active, and we need to have the place active to get more members. Sort of a vicious cycle. =P
Jul 31, 2017 16:46:13 GMT
Samantha: The problem is that the main person who likes to run contests, Riv, also has a tendency to disappear. xD And I don't have the time and the energy to run this place proper on my own.
Jul 31, 2017 16:45:38 GMT
27th: Yes, it is a lot of work. Though, I agree it could be worth the effort. As far as contests go, we've tried them here at DotE before. I don't know how well any of them worked but we it couldn't hurt to try.
Jul 30, 2017 5:53:42 GMT
R: Could try a contest?
Jul 29, 2017 4:40:04 GMT
shadow: Well. Yea. That also is a lot of work. It would be worth it though
Jul 28, 2017 4:12:51 GMT
27th: Well, recruitment would be key to that. Contacting the members we already have to try and get them to participate here would also be part of that.
Jul 26, 2017 15:52:29 GMT
shadow: I wonder what would happen if we tried to make it alive again
