Being Little in the Big Blue
The first thing Acacia knew was utter darkness. Then, fluorescent blue lit up her field of vision and she felt stark terror. Unable to think or comprehend yet she knew that Olorzxx, the Water Elemental, was her creator, she swam for her life. She swam for a long, long, long time. She was in Wormsplunge Trench, the home of her monstrous Elemental. She wondered if this was all that life had to offer.
Acacia kept swimming, something driving her on. She seemed to know that there was more to life than this. Eventually, she was proved correct. What followed was still most unpleasant but nothing more so than that first moment of horror at being that close to Olorzxx. Nothing she ever experienced in her life would ever compare to that.
Acacia passed the Crystal Pyramid, the monolith rising from the ocean floor so close to Wormsplunge Trench. She knew these names, as well as her own and she knew that she was not the only creation nor that Water was the only Element. What else did she know? That she had never known that the world could be so big. She came to Atlantis and began to swim around, exploring.
The Water creation did not know that Atlantis this day was unnaturally quiet, with no creations swimming about as they usually did. She did not know that there had been a conflict going on for the last half century that was finally culminating in a disagreement in out of control proportion. Completely unaware, Acacia swam on and that’s when she saw her first Water creation. Acacia was struck by her beauty: elegant, glowing, vibrant. Acacia swam towards the stranger, wanting to tell her what she thought of her.
That’s when Acacia saw her second Water creation. This creation was the complete opposite of the first: fierce, scary and sinister. On seeing the first, the second creation immediately swam forward to attack her. Acacia was too close by now to swim away but she managed to find a space where she could stay anchored: a mossy rock right in the midst of this fight. Acacia learned many things in the next few moments.
Acacia was the smallest creation in existence, all others were huge! Strangers could not be trusted. They would attack and do terrible things. The first creation fought well and at the end of their struggle, both fighting creations were bleeding from their wounds, making the salt water turn red. They parted ways, to leave their fight for another day.
Acacia, unnoticed the entire time, swam away as far and as fast as she could. She eventually found herself in the Dancing Reef. It was so colorful and lively there! The activity at first made her nervous but she saw mostly fish. Hungry at last, here she learned how to hunt and that she had a power: poison.
The miniscule Water creation may have stayed in the Dancing Reef but where there were other creations, Acacia decided to stay away. It was too dangerous for her otherwise. More often than not, they tried to eat her and that was the last thing that the little dragon wanted. So, Acacia became rather nomadic, rarely staying in any one place for long. She never knew that life could be any different than what her’s was.
This was her life…until she met Siru.
