small, faintly glowing orbs peaked out from behind a sad twisted tree. the contents of those creepy little circles encased in black? pure curiosity, tinged with a bit of mischief. their barely colored orbs darted back and forth along the mostly barren earth, as if following something. tiny black talons dug into the dry, cracked bark of the tree; riled up in anticipation. a blue coated thick tongue flickered in and out; tasting the air.
a tiny flash of grey ran around the desolate land; frantically looking for a place to hide. soon it came upon a cluster of fallen leaves and quickly dove in. the pile rustled a few times before a small, big eared mouse popped it's little head out. the rodent's large black eyes looked around cautiously; it's tiny pink nose flexing with speed. there seemed to be no immediate danger within the area, but the tiny creature was unnerved by something unknown. the feeling caused the mouse to dive back down into it's hide away, but it was clear that it wanted to move on for it's little head continuously poked out to survey the area every few minutes.
unbeknownst to the rodent the source of it's daunting feeling was a small predator lurking within the forest. tasting it's scent, watching it's every move, waiting for the right moment. each time the mouse disappeared the reptilian beast grew closer; creeping forward ever so slightly. the dragon's long, slender neck and body hugged the earth, her intense eyes never faltered from the gathering of decaying plant matter. though every time she had to patiently wait for the mammal to recede the hatchling questioned what it was that she stalked. never before had she seen such a small thing. it was so... tiny! all she wanted was for it to be hers. to hold it within her claws, to sniff it and eventually taste it.
almost.
the gap between the baby dragon and mouse was only that of a few feet. the youngster's body quivered with excitement as the rodent proceeded with it's behavior of ducking and peaking. it was almost to much to just sit still after achieving such closeness. her breathing was slow, her body a statue, but her insides felt like a million pieces bouncing around. the object of her desire was so near.
raven waited and waited, but the mouse suddenly stopped it's routine. not a single movement had came from the pile for quite a few moments. the hatchling tried to contain herself, but she soon grew worried. where had the little creature gone? did it somehow escape? no, nonsense. it was impossible. she had been watching with such ferocity that there was no way the rodent could have made a break for it.
anxiously the feathered beast approached the hiding place. her snout poking the leaves ever so gently. unfortunately the slight nudge caused the grey ball of fluff to bolt. frantically the dragon leaped forward in an attempt to catch the fleeing animal, but the damned thing was so fast! it scurried across the open ground, zig zagged, and dodged the beast's talons just barely. raven leaped and dove multiple times for the rodent, but to no avail. the mouse disappeared into a small hole at the base of a tree and that was the end of that.
angered the baby dragon let out an array of furious squawks and grunts; stomping her feet every few seconds. the feathers that surrounded her skull jutted out profusely from agitation.
