As he listened to Jester's description, Desmond leaned back too, although not quite as much, to cast his gaze skyward, staring distantly into the blue as he took in the other's words. He'd noticed the horses seem to have disappeared some time during their chat, but a new group of animals had shown up as well. There weren't very many of them yet, but a few large, dark birds had taken to circling overhead. Maybe vultures, but he couldn't quite tell from there. They'd probably thought they smelled something dead- as was usually the case whenever he left the Death Territory. And like so many before them, the birds had probably come in hopes of a meal that would never arrive.
Trying not to make too much of a grimace at the thought, he looked back at the Life Rider. He'd been fairly forthcoming thus far, and Desmond's curiosity had been caught by another comment of his, so he chose to try digging a little deeper to learn more. "So... where did you come from, if you don't mind my asking?" he inquired, thinking back on the mention of Jester's former life. He knew it was something of a dangerous topic where he was concerned, especially if the same question were to be turned on him. Discussions of life before becoming a Rider could lead to the circumstances of the event itself, and while he disliked lying to people, he still wasn't sure he was ready to share that particular part of the story. Seeing as Jester's element was Life, the feeling was almost doubled in that moment. But maybe he'd be able to dance around it, or maybe it wouldn't come up at all. Either way, he wouldn't worry too much before anything even happened.
