The day was bright; the bright blue sky nearly cloudless, earth motes floated about gently, and the soft golden grasses of the plains flowed and waved in the tenderly blowing wind. It was warm, and the cool breezes accented it beautifully. It was perfection.
The Elemental was lying on his back, wings outstretched underneath him and practically hidden by the tall vegetation, thoroughly enjoying himself. He had been wandering his lands earlier, talking to himself, striking up a conversation here or there with some creatures and one of his creations, but mainly he had been taking pleasure in this rather lax day. Much like always. Approaching the border with the earth lands, he couldn’t help but stop to admire the sights. And then he couldn’t help but want to feel the softness of the tall grasses. So a hop, skip, and jump later he found himself just inside the earth border, rolling and romping about in the golden mass.
With a satisfied sigh, Astraeus rolled over onto his side before he sat up. Getting to all four feet, he shook, trying to rid himself of the golden strands that caught in his grey-striped fur. Pushing himself off the ground, he took to the air, just barely hovering above the earth. His tail fluttered over the grass, just barely catching it and sending it rippling behind him.
The Elemental meandered his way over to a close by earth mote and perched precariously on it. Giving himself a toothy smile and a content rumble, Astraeus blew gently before it grew harder, just enough to start moving the earth mote. He did it again, this time sending the little floating island off in another direction, closer to the border. He let out a bark of laughter, rather enjoying his newfound game.
His blue eyes scanned the land about him, looking for something. “Such a lovely day, yes? Such a lovely day indeed and lovely days must be shared.” He let out a soft slightly disappointed rumble. There was not another living thing in sight! Perhaps he could share his lovely day with that cloud high above. Maybe he could play with it. Maybe it would hold a decent conversation with him. Without a moment’s hesitation, he unfurled his wings and set off for the puffy white cloud.
Upon reaching it, Astraeus blew gently. It, apparently, didn’t like his company and began to drift away. The grey dragon frowned, but followed anyway. It continued to float away. “What?” Astraeus asked it. “Is my company that distasteful? Would you rather find someone else to talk to? Hrmph.” He flew ahead of it and planted himself in its path, but it kept coming, not even bothering to move around the dragon.
Astraeus was engulfed temporarily. Water droplets caught to his fur and made their way into his eyes. “What, are you crying? What has upset you so?”
The cloud moved on, but this time Astraeus didn’t give chase. Rather he watched it for a long moment, before he shook himself off, sending water spraying everywhere. The droplets caught the light as they fell, making him admire the liquid diamonds before they disappeared. The dragon then made his way back to the earth mote and began blowing it around once more.
Surely there had to be someone who would be willing to share his lovely day.
